Numeracy Across the Curriculum at Perins 2016-2017
At Perins the responsibility of promoting numeracy is shared by all staff across all subject areas.
44
It isn’t all about numbers…
Across subjects we are using the mathematical thinking skills as a way of encouraging reasoning and problem solving across the curriculum.
45
In numerical subjects striving for ….
Encouraging… Discouraging… Cross-Curricular Consistency Writing down answers only Increased understanding of methods used Recognition that is never one correct method Use of estimation Vocalisation Non calculator methods Use of correct language e.g. ‘mean’ instead of ‘average’ For those of us in numerical subjects we have a responsibility to also encourage the above. We use methods to multiply that you may not have seen before so would like to quickly show you two tonight.
