The cards give clues to help you solve a mystery. Some give information, others ask questions. Solve the mystery! What do you do with the two volume answers? A tea-light holder is made out of wood. What is the volume of the cube? The diameter is twice the radius. How long is the cylinder? The sides of the cube are 6 cm. What units are used for the volume? A cylinder is hollowed out of a cube. The volume of a cube is calculated by cubing the side length. The formula for the volume of a cylinder is r²h. The cylinder leaves a layer of wood 2 cm thick to support the tea-light. Does your answer make sense? The diameter of the cylinder is 4 cm. What is the radius of the cylinder? The base of a cylinder is a circle. Work out the volume of the wood. Explain how you solved the mystery. Include the order in which you used the cards. This is an exam question. What do you think the question is?

A tea-light holder is made by hollowing out a cylinder from a cube of wood. The sides of the cube are 6 cm, and the diameter of the cylinder is 4 cm. The cylinder leaves a layer of wood 2 cm thick to support the tea-light.
