Time: 15 mins What is your favourite outdoor space and why? Consider: Your garden Your local park A forest A beach A sports field An outdoor space near shops.

4 Evaluate provision in relation to inclusion

Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1, 2.2) Evaluate provision in relation to inclusion You are required to evaluate a local indoor and outdoor provision in relation to inclusion. Evaluate – this will require you to explain how effective the provision is in relation to inclusion. Inclusion – this relates to the provision being accessible and available to all children.

Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1) Evaluate provision in relation to inclusion A local indoor provision could include: A soft play area An indoor play house A swimming pool A gym club for under 5s An exercise or sports class for young children Dance classes.

Time: 15 mins Research a range of indoor provision for children’s exercise that are local to you. Consider: Classes Groups Play areas Activities for different ages What does each example cost to use or attend? Do any of them make mention of inclusion? Learners will require access to the internet.

Time: 15 mins Research a range of outdoor provision for children’s exercise that are local to you. Consider: Classes Groups Parks Activities for different ages Is there a cost to use or attend this provision? Do any of them make mention of inclusion? Learners will require access to the internet.

Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1, 2.2) Evaluate provision in relation to inclusion You will need to choose one example from your indoor provision and one example from your outdoor provision lists. If you can visit each type of provision, then you will be able to evaluate first-hand how inclusive the provision is. If you are unable to visit, then you will have to evaluate from information available about the provision.

Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1, 2.2) Evaluate provision in relation to inclusion When evaluating how inclusive each provision is you could consider: Age and stage of the intended users Parking facilities Access to the building or area Toilet facilities Access to any equipment Availability Cost where appropriate How welcoming the provision or area is.

Consider: Location Type of provision Age of users Evidence of inclusive practice Why you chose that particular example to evaluate. This activity will enable learners to begin their evaluation by sharing their thoughts with others.

Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1, 2.2) Time: 15 mins Discuss the benefits of promoting inclusive practice in the provision of children’s exercise. Consider: Indoor provision Outdoor provision The benefits to the individual child The benefits to the family The benefits to all provision users. All children will be able to exercise and play with their peers. Families will have greater access to a wider range of provision. Children will learn to accept differences and to play and exercise with everyone.

13 2. Understand inclusive practice in relation to the use of provision for children’s exercise (2.1, 2.2) Time: 15 mins Plan an outdoor play area that is fully inclusive. Consider: The age of the user Equipment Space Access A range of facilities, including seating areas. This can be done in the form of a diagram or a short written piece.

14 Summary Inclusive practice is important in the provision of children’s exercise. Indoor and outdoor provision should demonstrate inclusive practice.
