What is leadership? It can be defined as the power to motivate people, develop potential and actualize vision through respectful interaction. Traditionally, leadership was understood as elite capability, or innate talent--something that could not be acquired through time and experience. Thus, the focus and title of “leader” was typically bestowed on a small, narrow percentage of individuals. However, it is now common to consider a new definition of leadership as a practicable skill that anyone can cultivate. For example, we know that contemporary leadership can be developed through education and training. Contemporary leadership focuses on person to person relationships. It also emphasizes actions, despite being a verbal concept. So the need for contemporary leadership requires the need for education: specifically, Leadership Education!

Women Leadership & Vision Practices of Exemplary Leaders Lead by Setting Vision Lead by Example Lead by Motivating, Inspiring & Persuading Others Lead by Achieving Small Wins Lead by Becoming a Positive Force Leaders create and articulate a vision and mission to their followers. A visionary is one whose ideas and plans are not always practical. A goal setter is one who makes practical goals exciting and reachable. A goal, by definition, must be reachable; a vision need not. A vision does not have to be accomplished, and may never be; but, it must stir the imagination and feed the soul. A vision is more than a goal. It reflects the overriding purpose of the organization or institution. It should inspire both leaders and followers.

Envision the Future Vision: What We Want To Be Mission: What We Have To Do To Achieve the Vision Strategic Objectives: How We Have To Do What We Have To Do Three Are Interrelated & Supportive Try this experiment. Think about the city of Paris. We think of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Seine, Notre Dame, good food….images of real places and real sensations, not quantitative statistics. We recall the images of reality, not abstractions from reality. To envision the future, we must draw upon that very natural mental process of creating images. An Example: Vision – Be the airline of choice for business travelers. Mission Statement – Capture 33% of the market share in one year. Strategic Objectives – Recruit 50 top-ranked commercial airline pilots by the end of the first quarter. Exercise: Return to your Vision, Mission and Strategic Objectives for your Department. Reexamine and revise your statements.

What is a Vision? Life without a vision is like a traveler without a compass. No one is born with a vision -> You need to create your own vision through creative mind Once you create your vision, you need to make efforts to fulfill the vision.

Check your current status of vision Do you have a clear vision of the direction and destination of your life? OR Do you live a life like a reed, bending and wavering by the wind (adversity, temptation, etc.) with no sense of direction? Which of below describes your life? Check your category. A Person with a Clear Vision. A Person without a Vision. Can easily determine how well you are implementing your vision. Can place more detailed efforts to achieve your vision Don't know the meaning or purpose of your life. Just live a life of struggle without any purpose.

Vision vs. Goals Activity: My Goal - Five W’s and One H □ Steps Each group is given a packet of theme cards (country/color/feeling/objects/school life/shape/animal/city, etc.). Each person draws a card and writes down the goals related to his/her future using the five W's and one H. Each group or individual presents his/her goals. □ Examples Book: I will read 60 books on various topics, including history, social studies, and philosophy in 3 years to increase my knowledge about the world and human beings. France: I will fly to France in 2021 on a business trip, and visit Louvre Museum and see the Mona Lisa.

Vision vs. Goals Activity: My Goal - Using Number □ Steps Each member of each group takes turn and draws a number card and a symbol card in the 2 envelopes. Write a sentence that describes the future you by using the number and the symbol cards you drew. □ Examples Cards Drawn “3 / %“: I will be in the top 3% in the next semester. Cards Drawn“9 / $ “: 5 years later I will get a job and donate $9 every month for female college students in our country. Cards Drawn“1 / -(minus sign)“: I will minus 1 bad habit every year.
