1 DISCLAIMER for design plans and construction notes… get a class in pvc cutting and gluing etc. etc.

2 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 1… the test and the finished product
In a home pool, the edge should be placed where the watermelon typically ends up after being thrown in while all of the filters and pumps are on. Measure the distance from the top of the edge to the water level A finished edge is shown here without the anchors being fastened yet… place the edge and perform the watermelon test again as the edge may influence water flow. Now let’s build one !

3 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 2… what you will need and an exploded view
PVC cutters, 1 can of water proof PVC glue, black vinyl tape, 20 feet of ¾ inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe, six elbow joints, four T joints, 2 end caps + extras of each. Sand paper (not shown) Cut sections (all from ¾ inch pipe) 1, 2 and 3 at 36 inches. Cut two a’s at 7 inches two b’s at 4 inches two c’s at 7 inches, two d’s at 3 inches and two ec’s at 1 inch. Use black tape to stripe pipe 3 as shown.

4 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 3
Sand the ends and inside the L and T joints and PVC glue the upper section as shown. Sand the ends and inside the L and T joints and PVC glue the lower section as shown.

5 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 4
All pipe ends sanded and cleaned, inside each L, T and end caps sanded, cleaned and PVC “blue” glued. Placed at watermelon stop site with jets and filter pumps on and re-watermelon tested.

6 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 5 (this version is called option P)
This pool coping has a one inch over-hang and therefore the ec portion was removed. The T was sealed with a pvc plug and 3 is one inch underwater.

7 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge (an option… *G )
In this option, the upper deck is two feet longer, a L is used instead of a T and the bars extending the striped bar are longer. This would be best where the coping is flush with the tile (no over-hang) and the children are older. No anchors to the deck are shown.

8 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge (an option *S)
This option features a two foot extension on the upper portion and no extension bars for the striped bar L’s were used vs T’s. Best for coping that is not flush with the tile and children under 18 months.

9 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge (an option… *G with T’s )
This is option G shown before but with T’s and a 2x4 support (39 inches long, attached with nylon cable ties. Used for over-hang coping with infants 18 months +

10 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 9 (for option P from slide 6)
The anchors are anything safe that keep the PVC edge securely in place. In this version, a 39 inch piece of shelving board was fastened to the PVC using cable ties. Never drill through PVC, use cable ties AROUND the pipes. Once firmly tied down, a 45 pound weight is bolted to the shelving boards. The outdoor carpeting covering the upper deck portion has not been placed and cable tied into place yet.

11 ISR Inc. Artificial PVC Edge step 10
This shows how the nylon cable keepers are used, however, the insert portion should be UNDER the boards where the PVC pipe is… Attractive but dangerous, the pool view is blocked by the plant.. Better to use sand bags or deck anchors…
