PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF FIRST HPV PRIMARY SCREENING PRIVATE SECTOR IN BUENOS AIRES FEMALE POPULATION R. Jiménez del Toro, K. Kreimberg, G. Camicia, J. Calderazzo Pereyra, R. Salanova, L. Paul, Río de La Plata HPV Group, Y. Powazniak. INTRODUCTION Studies show that infection caused by HPV is a direct cause of cervical cancer. From the 40 HPV types affecting ano-genital tract, 15 are considered of higher oncogenic risk. HPV16 and 18 account for 70% of cervical cancer cases. OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of HPV genotypes and the correlation between DNA-PCR test and cytology RESULTS From a total of 325 analyzed samples, 21% tested positive for viral HPV DNA. Within the positives we could identify 23% of HPV 16 type, 8% of HPV 18 type and 86% of other high risk types. The concordance results between cytology and genotyping were 85% (n=93) for the normal cytology, 50% for LSIL cases (n=8), 100% for HSIL cases (n=2) and 50% for ASCUS cases (n=2) DISCUSSION/ARGUMENT Distribution of HPV genotypes was similar to published studies. However, percentage of HPV-16 was higher than expected (5 vs 3%), probably due to reduced sample size. From the 14 HPV positive cases with normal cytology, 6 resulted positive for HPV-16 and 1 for HPV-18. Based on cytology, these women with hr-HPV infections would have been dismissed from preventive diagnosis. The cervical cell samples were collected in PCR cell collection media tubes. The automated extraction of viral DNA was performed with the COBAS X480 equipment and the detection of presence and types of HPV with the “High Risk HPV qPCR kit” with the COBAS Z480 system. The COBAS HPV test can detect and identify HPV types: 16, 18 and the rest of high risk types (AR; 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68).
