2 Developing the health and well-being of young people
We know increasing levels of inactivity and the well-being of children is a concern. -19.1% of year 6 pupils obese & 14.2% overweight (National NCMP Data 2014/2015). -Over 50% 7 year olds are not meeting the Chief Medical Officer’s Physical Activity Guidelines. -Inactivity 4th largest cause of premature deaths and directly contributes to one in six UK deaths (World Health Organisation 2010)

4 What is your school currently doing to engage the less active young people?

5 What barriers do schools encounter when engaging inactive students?
How could you remove these barriers?

6 C4l/Energy Clubs Targets inactive/ overweight Year 3 and 4 children
Change4life club adapted to add a nutritional element. Coach works with member of staff-sustainability. 1 interactive healthy eating session- parental involvement. A take home resource-tasks on exercise and nutrition. Community Club and Holiday Camps. Ways used to engage less active/breaking down barriers Festivals Bring a friend Change for Life Champions

7 Mini WISPA/Girls Active
Project currently in it’s pilot phase, hopefully will be one that will continue next year - watch this space Targeting Year 5 and 6 inactive girls School given funding to bring in specialist coaches to help kick start the programme Engaging activities/coaches are suggested (i.e. Cheerleading, Dance based activities After 6 weeks-Mini WISPA we hope the Girls are inspired and activities continue in school and out of school Celebration event to bring a cluster of schools together at the end of the programme 3 schools involved in the pilot phase – Humberstone A, Stokeswood and Mellor
