Financial markets and financial institutions are central to promoting greater economic efficiency by channeling funds from people who do not have a productive use for them to people who have productive investment opportunities. So well-functioning financial markets are a key factor in producing high economic growth and poorly performing financial markets are one reason that many countries in the world remain badly poor.

Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s fastest growing banking markets. commercial banks operating in the Kingdom are likely to be more efficient in near future on back of technological developments, and encouraging government policies.

The Saudi financial system also contained of three autonomous government institutions, included because of their important role in providing financing for economic deficits, deposits with SAMA, and foreign currency holdings. These included the:
Pension Fund.
The General Organization of Social Insurance
The Saudi Fund for Development.

The Saudi Government played an important role in developing the banking system by providing funds and liquidity for all Saudi banks from commercial banks, industrial, agricultural and real state banks.
The Saudi Government inject SAR 40 billion into specialized credit institutions in 2008 to ease credit conditions as private sector banks reassessed their credit extension in light of global market conditions.

There is 4 types of financial institutions in Saudi Arabia:
Commercial banks.
Industrial banks.
Agricultural banks .
The real estate banks.
