Memorial Ceremony for Brother Romeo "Loy" Buzon Mendoza May 29, 1958-June 21, 2009 The text came from the July 2005 edition of The Ritual and Other Ceremonies of Alpha Phi Omega The following ceremony is intended to assist a Chapter or Alumni Association in paying tribute to a deceased Brother or Sister (including all types of membership as in the Bylaws). This ceremony is to be used at the Chapter or Alumni Association's discretion and may be altered as necessary. The intent is for the ceremony to remain flexible, so it can be personalized to pay sufficient tribute to the deceased. Grieving nonmembers (family, friends, etc.) may be invited and/or involved in the ceremony so as to help them in their healing process. Ritual Preparation: Five candles, one white candle to represent the departed; three blue candles, one for each of the Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service; and one gold candle to represent the spirit of Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Brother/Sister #1 should hold candle #1 (white). Set the remaining four candles on a table with the three blue candles in front of the gold candle. Option: Note the whole ceremony could be done by one Brother or Sister. Brod Romeo "Loy" Mendoza, Alpha '76 is one of our chartered member in APO-CVCAA. The last time he attended APO-CVCAA function was during our Joint Inauguration '09 in Fremont. Also, my last communication with him was sometime in February this year telling him about our meeting schedules and activities. Unfortunately on that time he told me that, he's quite busy with his HVAC maintenance business as well as on his home landscaping project. Due to this he humbly asked for consideration for the time being and told me that, he will call as soon as he find time to once again attend our meetings and activities. On Wed 06/24/ :47 a.m., writes: Hi Colleen, thanks for the . We sure are mourning the loss of our Brod and your better half Loy. Just as he started to rejoin our chapter early this year, he once again disappeared in our midst, this time for good in this lifetime. God is in control and we do not have a choice except to accept His wishes. I was his Master Initiator when he joined APO-Alpha Chapter (Far Eastern University) in After that semester, he moved to Alpha Delta (San Sebastian College), but still hang around with us in Alpha Chapter where he finally passed his initiation ritual (formal acceptance as APO Brother in the Alpha Chapter). He once again moved to another college (Philippine Christian University) after that. Over the course of moving in these 3 colleges and universities and his participation in the various alumni associations of APO here, he met a lot of APO brothers and sisters. His most recent participation was when you, your niece, and Brod Loy went to APO Sacramento's camping in Lake Don Pedro, on Saturday, June 6, As his contribution, he even grilled the fish that was being prepared then for our dinner, if you recall. He did not have to do this, but as is customary in our fraternity, service to others is always a cherished objective. I was really surprised and happy to see him when we met last January 2009 at Brod Ben Castro's ACNA President inauguration dinner at the Fremont Hilton! Since then we maintained contact as you probably know. We even met for lunch in Merced one day when he had a business appointment here, about a month ago. I told him about our chapter's plans of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the APO Fraternity in the Philippines on March 2, He told me that he also wanted to go back to join this grand reunion. In this brief period of joining his chapter, he showed the true spirit of an APO Brother willing to volunteer at all costs in serving his fraternity, its members, and the communities that our APO Fraternity serves. We will miss you, Brother Loy. On behalf of the members of APO Alpha Chapter, we are extending our deep condolences and sympathy to Colleen and the children and families of Brod Loy and Colleen. On Thu 06/25/ :19 a.m., writes: Brod Mel, Your article looks good. I was their Master Initiator when the three (3) batchmates Loy Mendoza, Alex Mendoza (cousin of Loy), and another Brod (Brod Loy mentioned him recently but I cannot recall his name anymore) passed their finals on the 2nd semester of the school year. They inadvertently did not name their batch. Hence, it is only called Batch 1976-B in our roster. Brods Loy Mendoza, along with Brods Alex Mendoza (his batchmate), Dennis Agoncillo (Alpha, Starsky and Hutch 1976-D), the Hernal Brothers Gary, Ival, and ?, and other APO Brods were all childhood friends in their neighborhood of BF Homes Paranaque, before they joined APO in their respective chapters.
