13 Overview of the ELA fsa

14 HOW MANY QUESTIONS ARE ON THE ELA FSA?
Grade Band Number of Items 3-5 56-60 6-8 58-62 9-11 60-64 Refer to the Florida’s Transition to Computer-Based Testing for Statewide Assessment Handout Approximately 6-10 items within the ELA (Reading, Language, and Listening components) are experimental (field test) items and are included in the ranges above but are not included in the students’ scores. CBT accommodations are not yet available in the released training tests. However, some accommodations are available for all students (zoom, color/contrast). Enhanced practice tests for student practice will be released this fall. Information about additional practice tests to be developed for each grade level and subject will be released at a later date.

15 Sample test answers: ELA
This item require a multiple choice response. A student will only select one answer choice. As you can see, these questions look similar on both formats of the test. Paper-Based This is the format of the test that your son/daughter will take this year. Computer-Based

16 Sample test answers: ELA
Paper-Based Here is another multiple choice response question. A student will only select one answer choice (sentence). Computer-Based This is the format that the students will see in the future. To complete this multiple choice response on the computer version, however, the students will need to use the highlighter option.

17 Sample test answers: ELA
This is a multi-select item. More than one response is required to answer the question. In this case, the questions is asking for two correct answers. Questions like this will look similar on both formats of the test. Students will have to (in this case) select 2 answers which are correct. As far as partial credit is concerned, DOE is discussing this option, but there will be no firm answer until rubrics have been developed. Rubrics are anticipated in September.

18 Sample test answers: ELA
Here is another multi-select item. Students may need to circle the correct answers. Paper-Based Computer-Based To complete this multi- select item on the computer version, however, the students will need to drag and drop their answers.

19 Sample test answers: ELA
There are questions that have multiple parts. It will look similar on both formats of the test. This item type is a two step multiple choice question. The significance of this item is that it is making student support their answer from the text.

20 Sample test answers: ELA
This is an open response item which requires the student to write their response (answer) into the textbox provided. On the computer version, the students will need to type their response. This open response item is important for several reasons This item is lengthy for a student to re/re-read.

21 Sample test answers: ELA
This timeline has a unique design and our students will need be familiar with this format. This item requires students to drag their answers into a timeline, however, note that the timeline is not set up the way most students are used to. Some students would answer the boxes up top first, not necessarily put them in the order in which they are supposed to be. How can other content areas help students become more familiar with a timeline such as this? From social studies to electives, these timelines are easily implemented in other content areas.

22 Sample test answers: ELA
This is a multi-select item. More than one response is required to answer the question. In this case, the question is asking for three details. While this item might not be the best item, it is good to use to highlight a multi-select item type. Students will have to (in this case) select 3 answers which are correct. As far as partial credit is concerned, DOE is discussing this option, but there will be no firm answer until rubrics have been developed. Rubrics are anticipated in September.

Click on the arrow on the bottom right of slide to return to the Reporting Categories slide Grade Band Word Count Range 3-5 6-8 9-11

Students will replace the blank word by selecting from a list of words provided This type of task is new to both students and teachers. On Highlights with Edits, students will have to click on the highlighted word and choose from the drop down menu as to the correction necessary. It is important to note that there are some computer skills required with this new type of item as students will Click on the arrow on the bottom right of slide to return to the Reporting Categories slide
