13 FIRST TEACHING SUBJECT
You must satisfy the subject content requirements for at least one first teaching subject. Specific BOSTES requirements are outlined in the TEP Student Guide. FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

14 Second Teaching Subjects offered at Macquarie
A second teaching subject usually broadens your employment opportunities. Students, except those completing Mathematics and Science, are encouraged to undertake second teaching subject. Science students, however, are encouraged undertake content to qualify to teach a second Science subject. Specific BOSTES requirements are outlined in the TEP Student Guide. 15 English Proficiency  It is strongly recommended that students who did not achieve at least Band 5 in English at the HSC include one of the following units in their program: LING109 Language, Culture and Communication or LING 291 Writing in English OFFICE I FACULTY I DEPARTMENT

People and Planet units enable students to: understand the challenges and issues facing the world develop the capacity to be engaged and ethical local and global citizens. People units are designed to give students an understanding of what it means to live in the social world, and to develop cultural or social literacy. Planet units enable students to develop scientific literacy and to understand what it means to live in the physical world. You are required to include one People unit and one Planet unit in your program of study For double degrees these units need to be completed in two different faculties. FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

- enhance students' educational experience and work-readiness by offering them opportunities to apply their academic learning to real world situations - assist our local, regional and international partners build their capacity - transform the learning, teaching and research experience at Macquarie to enable us to better contribute to a socially inclusive and sustainable society. 23 Qualifying major/program of study
Qualifying major: A major (a structured sequence of undergraduate units) that is listed as satisfying the general requirements for a specific program. Programs that allow a choice of the particular subject area to be studied (such as the Bachelor of Arts) require the completion of a qualifying major. CAPSTONE UNITS Capstone unit A final year unit of study in an undergraduate degree program which integrates the material presented across a major or program of study. Capstone units can provide students with opportunities to integrate their knowledge and experiences from their whole program in preparation for the next stage of their career. BABEd(Secondary) You are required to complete: a minimum of 96 credit points; no more than 36 credit points at 100 level; a Qualifying Major for the Bachelor of Arts; specific minimum requirements for the BABEd(Sec) including a PACE unit; and the balance of required credit points which include a People unit and a Planet unit, second teaching subject content and methodology and, if required, Band 4 equivalence in English. 47 RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be given for recognised studies undertaken elsewhere. When granted, RPL may count towards the credit point requirement for your degree. If you have received unspecified credit you may be able to convert it into Specified Credit (previously known as Exemptions) Students must complete an RPL application. FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

49 FULL TIME – PART TIME WORKLOAD
Full-time student: - Typical full time study Load is 12 credit points per session - To be classified as full-time you must enrol in at least 18cp per year Workload - 1 credit point = 3 hours work per week. A 3 credit point unit will therefore require a minimum study time commitment of 9 hours per week. - Note: Session 3 – is the same workload compressed into 5 weeks! FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

52 Professional experience
Over the entire course of your degree you will complete 80 days of professional experience: 20 days in EDTE302 (normally taken in S2 of 3rd year) 60 days in TE401 and TE402 (normally taken in S1 and S2 of 4th year) You can read all about your professional experience on the School of Education website: FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

53 CHANGING YOUR PROGRAM FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

54 Changing your program Internal units can be added and deleted up to the end of Week 2 each session. External units can be added and deleted up to the end of Week 1 each session. You can withdraw from a unit (or your entire program) up to the end of Week 4 (26th March in S1) without incurring academic or financial penalty. FACULTY OF HUMAN SCIENCES

Next steps Complete the Proposed Program Form Take your signed form to E4B where you will be admitted to your program. You may then to go to the E4B computer rooms to complete your enrolment in units and classes (there will be people to assist you, if needed). Alternatively, you can enrol off-campus via eStudent.
