1 Pipeline Management Introducing the ATLAS pipeline management module
United Nations Development Programme Pipeline Management Introducing the ATLAS pipeline management module

2 What is pipeline management?
Pipeline: “The totality of planned programmes, projects, and initiatives that UNDP units/offices are expected to pursue within a foreseeable time in the future.” Identification of new ideas Development of ideas into project proposals Maturing of proposals into fully formed projects Pipeline Management:

3 Why is pipeline management so important?
Pipeline management supports two key objectives: Strategic – it ensures that that UNDP remains focused and the programme portfolio globally, regionally and locally is consistently framed within the Strategic Plan. Financial – it enhances the ability of UNDP to leverage and maximize various partnerships and opportunities for development financing. It also contributes to ensuring financial sustainability of the organization through enabling better informed and more accurate resources projections and making necessary adjustments in internal resource planning.

4 Budgeting over multiple years under Project level co-financing

5 How will the Pipeline Management module help us achieve these goals?
Country Offices will benefit from: a system to manage new projects from ideation to the signing of the project document a corporately-endorsed methodology for predicting volume of future projects and income a common reporting platform for resource planning Regional Bureaux will benefit from: a systematic capture of Country Office pipeline information a standardized methodology of assessing pipeline maturity a system to link pipeline outputs and show alignment to the new Strategic Plan

6 Link pipeline outputs to relevant SP Outcome and Corporate Output
How can we access the Pipeline Management module in Atlas? Link pipeline outputs to relevant SP Outcome and Corporate Output Linking Pipeline to the Strategic Plan

7 Maturity level captured in Atlas
How do we test the maturity of our pipeline? Criteria Questions + - 1. Demand for services Evidence of need for project? 2. Enabling environment Evidence of conducive local environment? Risks? 3. Availability of UNDP substantive expertise Within a UNDP core area of expertise? 4. Availability of critical partners? Implementing partner/s? Substantive partner/s? Funding partners? 5. Degree of development Defined project strategy, results & activities Maturity level captured in Atlas Class A Class B Class C Hard Pipeline Soft Pipeline Ideas

8 How can resource projections be derived from pipeline data?
Discounting dependent on maturity Project Projected budget (broken down by year) Adjusting factor in non-core Revised non-core value Cost-recovery Rate Delivery rate Projected XB (GMS) earning Core Non-core Class A pipe line projects Inputted value  Inputted value 10% Calculated 7% 3% 8% Exceptions Class B pipe line projects 30% to 50% Class C pipe line projects 70%

9 Identify potential funding sources
What information is being captured by the Pipeline Management module? Assigning maturity level and identifying funding sources Assign maturity level Identify potential funding sources

10 What reports do we have today?
Pipeline Summary Report

11 What reports do we have today?
Pipeline Detail Report

12 Resources By SP Outcome and Bureau
Pipeline Detail Report

13 What other Pipeline Management reports do we need?
We need your feedback – what kind of reports do you need? Summaries of pipeline projects (substance and funding) Non-core projections summary XB projects summary Pipeline maturity overview/dashboard
