2. ECAL plan
Objective: Having a running (part of) ECAL in HADES cave in the end of 2017 for SIS experiments
R&D: Technical issues solved, TDR approved, development (almost) closed
To be solved:
- final PMT type : ~ 270 PMTs missing (from total )
usage of 1.5” and 3”, or only 3”??
- funding: from FAIR in progress, FAIR-CZ in progress, other sources??
Work schedule:
- adaption of module mechanics on the way
(see further slides), but partially depend on the PMT type
- support frame – see separate talk of Edward Lisowski
- assembly and installation of modules – from 2016, depending on available space and delivery of the support frame

3. Dismantling of ECAL modules at GSI
- done in GSI by technicians from INR Moscow (disassembling and cutting long cans)
- 700 modules ready (plus ~200 with shorter length)
- 260 modules shipped from CERN in spring 2015,
will be processed in Nov. - Dez. 2015
End of 2015 – preparation finished, 100% of needed lead glass crystals and brass cans available.

4. Adaption of ECAL modules at Tuř (CZ)
550 modules moved from GSI to CPM company (Tuř, CZ) in 5/2015
(small company focused on precise mechanics and optics)
300+ modules ready, 100% by the end of October, than shipment back to GSI!
Task on modules:
cleaning, polishing lead glass where needed
wrapping in Tyvek
adapting mechanics to correct length
preparation for optical fiber
manufacture of new mechanics for 3“ PMT

- adaption of HV boxes, PE spacers,...
- mechanics for all modules
- final assembly of modules for 1-2 sectors
- installing modules in HADES cave
(when support structure is ready)

8. Open questions – missing funding
Funding of some components is not clear (= has to be clarified now or in near future)!!
270 PMT – mixture of 1.5“ and 3“, or 3“ only?
HV system for 4 sectors
monitoring system for 5 sectors
Continuing in module assembly now might lead to spoil of money and work when changing the plans in future...
