3 CONDITION MONITORING (EQUIPMENT HEALTH MONITORING)
CM is determining the health and condition of equipments, machines and systems by observing, checking and monitoring certain parameters and signals. LEAKAGE MONITORING Leakage is unintended discharge of fluid and gases from mechanical components like containers, press. Vessels, pipelines etc.

4 INTRODUCTION Pipelines are used as bulk carrier for crude oil and natural gas Used in water distribution system. Result of leakage include: loss of product Environmental hazards Loss of life

5 LEAK DETECTION METHODS
HARDWARE METHOD This method is use to detect leak with the help of instrument outside the pipeline. SOFTWARE METHOD This method is uses different instrument to monitor internal parameters like pressure,velocity,temperature. It is also known as computational pipeline monitoring (CPM)

7 Acoustic Emission Detectors
Escaping liquids creates an acoustic signal as they passes through a hole in the pipe. Acoustic sensors affixed to the outside of the pipeline sense the acoustic signal. When a leak occurs, a resulting low frequency acoustic signal is detected and analyzed.

9 Fibre-optic Leak Detection
Installation of fibre-optic cable along the length of pipeline being monitored. Thermal sensors are placed at different locations to measure the temperature of fibre cable. As the leakage occurs there produces cooling effect and temperature goes down.

11 Vapour sensing method It involves the installation of a tube along the entire length of the pipeline. This tube in cable form is highly permeable to the substances to be detected in the particular application. If a leak occurs, the substances to be measured come into contact with the tube in the form of vapour, gas or dissolved in water. In the event of a leak, some of the leaking substance diffuses into the tube. After a certain period of time, the inside of the tube produces an accurate image of the substances surrounding the tube.

16 CONCLUSION Leakage monitoring is vital when risk to human life is concerned and fluid is costlier. Very cost effective with respect to concerned industry point of view. Using Gas Sensory devices (GSD) we can easily diagnose the gas leakage from pipeline. Leak Detection System (LDS) provide the location of leakage without placing persons at different places.
