They set out in search of King Solomon’s diamond mines. The group consisted of Sir Henry, Gagool and Allan. Gagool was a guide. They knew the journey was going to be long and dangerous. ……………, …………… …………… …………… …………… ……………

23

24 They reached Solomon’s Road which leads to the mines.
It was dark. They decided to wait until morning because they were very exhausted because they had been hiking through mountainous terrain for 8 hours. Sir Henry and Gagool had already fallen asleep, but Allan spent most of the night tossing and turning.

25

26 Next day, they marched down Solomon’s Road The treasure that had eluded so many before us would finally be ours! Then, he remembered Sir Henry’s brother, George, who had also been searching for the treasure when he was lost.

27

28 Sir Henry : Allan. Over there. Allan: The mines
Sir Henry : Allan! Over there! Allan: The mines! We’ve found King Solomon’s mines! Allan began running towards the cave when Gagool grabbed my arm. Gagool : Do not be in such a hurry! ‘I told you before, my lord, that mine is dangerous. It is better that I go in first. You wait here.’ Gagool : ‘I have inspected the mine,’ ‘ Are you sure you are ready to enter?’ Allan : Yes, yes, we’re ready. Gagool: ‘Fine’ ‘Follow me.’

29 They followed the guide into the dark mouth of the cave
They followed the guide into the dark mouth of the cave. Gagool lit a lamp and led them down a winding passageway, before finally coming to a halt in front of a doorway.

30 Gagool: ‘This room is the Place of Death’
I was about to ask why, when I saw something that terrified me: a huge white skeleton sitting at a table. Allan: ‘What’s that?’ Gagool: ‘The Guardian of the Treasure,’. ‘Are you sure you want to proceed?’ Allan : ‘Yes, yes, we’re sure,’ ‘You are not afraid?’ ‘No,’ I lied.

31 Gagool walked behind the skeleton, examined the rocky wall and pulled down a lever. There in front of us was King Solomon’s treasure chamber.

32 Sir Henry: ‘Give me that lamp!’
he took it from Gagool’s fingers. The room was filled with breathtaking treasures: hundreds of ivory tusks lined the walls and boxes overflowed with jewels and pieces of gold. I was so overcome with emotion I could barely speak.

33 Gagool: ‘There are the bright stones you seek,’ ‘We are the richest men in the world!’

34 We were so delighted with our find that we failed to notice that the cave door was slowly closing. By the time we heard the thud, it was too late. We were trapped.
