8 United States’ Role in Vietnam War
The United States got involved with the Vietnam War to prevent a Communist takeover in the south. In reality it had little to do with the best interest of Vietnam, the United States wanted to assert its dominance against communism all over the world and this was a visible example. The United States supported President Diem with money and military guidance. The Vietnam War is known as the longest and most unpopular war that Americans had ever fought.

9 United States’ Role in Vietnam War
The United States is blamed for millions of people’s deaths in Vietnam. The War left people and communities shattered and destroyed and over 2 million people were killed. Entire villages were decimated, and people were left with psychological and physical disabilities due to the war.

10 First Televised War “Living Room War”
The Vietnam War was the first war where people could see it on the news every night at home. It was a televised war. Regular citizens in the United States and around the world could see for themselves the damage and destruction caused by the war.

11 Protests in the United States
The war was largely unpopular in the United States and large protests happened in response. There was also the controversy over the Military draft, which required men over 18 to enlist in the Military and go fight in Vietnam. 58,000 American Soldiers died in Vietnam and 300,000 soldiers were wounded. Even to this day, people look back on the mistake the United States made with this war.

12 The End of the Vietnam War
In December 1974, the North Vietnamese (communists) began their final campaign which led to the surrender of the South Vietnamese government. In 1976 the country was united under Communist rule. The United States and South Vietnam had lost the war. The war concluded with the withdrawal of the American troops and the failure of its foreign policy in Vietnam.
