International academic status
The ISI Web of Science ranked NCKU in the top 15 energy research centers worldwide in five energy sub-fields, from the beginning of 2011 to This ranking was based on the number of SCI papers published in the sub-fields of microalgae, LED lighting, offshore wind, solar cells, and energy savings. This result indicates that the research capabilities of RCETS has reached levels on par with worldwide top-tier research centers.

Collaborated with UCLA Prof. Yang Yang’s lab. to develop the state-of-the-art perovskite solar cell technology and dramatically improved the performance, the result had been published on Nature Nanotechnology (IF=35.267)

The performance of hybrid perovskive-based LEDs is markedly enhanced by the application of an NiOx electrode interlayer with a world record peak luminous efficiency of 15.9 cd A−1 and brightness >70,000 cd m−2 , the result was published on Advanced Materials (IF=18.96)

Initiating the application of oxidized Ni/Au transparent electrode for efficient perovskite /Fullerene hybrid solar cells fabrication and sufficiently improve the operation characteristic, the result was published on Advanced Materials (IF=18.96)

This research is a joint project with National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. This research was supported by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan.

15. Successful Technology Transfer
NCKU research team led by Professor Ming-Shi Chang (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), has discovered an anti-interleukin-20 (anti-IL-20) antibody, a potential new anti-osteoporosis and anti-rheumatoid arthritis drug, and agrees to license selected intellectual property and transfer certain technology to Novo Nordisk A/S, the second largest pharmaceutical company in Europe, for a total payment of US$ 13.3 million (approx NTD$400 million).

16. Recognized in outstanding research
The five recipients are Prof. I-Ching Chen from the Department of Life Sciences, Prof. Tzung-Fang Guo from the Department of Photonics, Prof. Yan-Shen Shan and Prof. Michael W Hughes from the Institute of Clinical Medicine, and Prof. Ting-Tsung Chang from the Department of Internal Medicine. Their research papers published on Science, Nature Nanotechnology, the Lancet and Cell Journal.

17. Highlight of NCKU Research - Orchid Gene Research and Cosmetics/Wine
Distinguished Professor Dr. Hong-Hwa Chen has completed the first orchid genome sequence, Phalaenopsis equestris, the university announced at a press conference in Taipei and had been chosen as the cover article. 
The Orchid Research Center can now obtain good quality and quantity extracts and embryonic stem cells from orchids to make a variety of product.

18. Highlight of NCKU Research - Hybrid Rocket
The rocket was launched from Mudan Township in Pingtung, and reached an altitude of 9km, which is higher than any other hybrid rocket launched by a university team anywhere in Asia.
It is entirely designed and manufactured by NCKU and the interdisciplinary efforts involve experts from the electric engineering, astronautics and aeronautics.

19. Highlight of NCKU Research - iNCKU Fitness Tracker
NCKU designed a newly innovated smart watch named iNCKU with cloud-based health management system to help our students keep track of their health indicators.
