Ranger – great series for kids who have finished Magic Treehouse. Rescue Dog travels in time to do rescues – This one is to the Frozen North (Iceland it seems) in the time of the Vikings. Must rescue Helga after she has rescued him several times. 5th in series. I think there are now 6 out. Show series link.

5. Tim Green’s website for kids
Kid Owner – Lots of character education in this book about when Ryan’s father leave him the Dallas Cowboys. I can see why it will appeal to kids who watch or play football. Great to suggest to kids who may want to be sports announcers. I learned how much of football is brains, not brawn.

7. Scholastic Upside Down Magic Website with trailer
Nine Year Old Nory has to go to the UDM class in a public school as she has not gotten into her father’s magic academy. She and her friends need to learn to control their somewhat wonky powers. Fun, fast read for 2-4.
Took – the only one I haven’t finished – Mary Downing Hahn won and came in 2010 for Deep Dark and Dangereous

8. Magical Realism
Graphic novel by last year’s winner Raina Telgemeier. Not a memoir like Sisters, but the magical realism is great. Some controversy when it first came out from Native American groups, but it seems to have blown over. Kids do love her books. Great context for Day of the Dead.

9. Find Guidelines at vote at CCIRA

Nominated books must be currently in print and published in the five years preceding the award year.
Only one title per author will be included in each year's ballot.
Last year's WINNING authors are not eligible this year.
Books previously nominated are not eligible for nomination in following years.
A book title nominated by more that one school or library will be considered more heavily for inclusion in the final list.
Books based on movies, TV shows, toys, or apps are not eligible for nomination unless the book preceded the production.
The author of a nominated book must be a living author.
Caldecott and Newbery Award books are not eligible. Honor books are eligible.
Once a book in a series has won, all other books in that series by that author will not be eligible for nomination.
Children may vote for one picture book and one junior book provided they have read a minimum of three books in each category.
Submit the top 20 BOOK TITLES NOMINATED by children with the TOTAL nominations for each book to the CCBA Committee by March 1, 2018.
PLEASE be sure to put the number of students who nominated the book.

Book prior to any other format (production)
# of schools before # of nominations
Each school can submit up to 20 titles when they vote before March 2, 2018
Children may vote for 1 PB and 1 JB if they have read or hear at least 3 in the category
