Health & Wellness Rec/IM – your student status provides for free use ( University Health Services – Snow Health Center ( Tobacco Free Campus Policy – Effective July 1, 2015 Applies to ALL University employees, STUDENTS, visitors, contractors, volunteers, and service representatives while on EMU property. Smoking and the use of tobacco are prohibited in or on ALL University owned, operated, or leased buildings, facilities and grounds, including vehicles (including all off-campus facilities owned or leased by the University)

16 PARKING INFORMATION Hang tag sales for commuter, residence hall & apartment students begin Monday, March 27, 2017. Starting April 10, hang tags can be purchased in person at the Public Safety Building at 1200 Oakwood Street from 8:30am- 4:30pm. Commuter hang tags must be displayed on rear view mirror starting May 10, After this day vehicles are subject to ticketing. Hang tags ordered online before April 28, 2017 will be mailed, after April 28, 2017 they will be available at the Public Safety Building the following business day after 4pm.

24 Time to Degree Completion
Max 6 years – Master’s degree Max 3 years – Certificate program Max 6/7 years – Specialist degree Max 7 years – Doctoral degree MOST forms are available on line!

25 graduation Graduation information: Summer graduates: You must apply for graduation via your my.emich account –by May 17, 2017 for priority processing. There is a fee and it will be posted to your student account. The last day to apply for summer graduation is August 15, 2017. Commencement information: Must get tickets prior to the day of the ceremony (six tickets available for each graduate at no cost) Must order regalia ahead of time Timeline depends on whether it is a December or April ceremony.

28 Program of Study (PoS) – The roadmap to complete your program
Lists all courses to be taken in the graduate program (sequence, timing) Establish/create your POS as soon as possible Contact graduate program coordinator/advisor for it POS needs to be submitted by the program coordinator to the Office of Records and Registration – must be submitted by the end of the first semester of study

29 Transfer of Credit Must meet residency requirements (24 original credit hours at EMU) and must receive approval from your advisor. Grades must be a “B” or better Must represent a letter grade (i.e., pass/fail & cr/no cr do not transfer) MIGS – Michigan Intercollegiate Graduate Studies: course enrollment outside EMU but in Michigan at specific universities (contact Dondi Goerlitz with questions) MOST forms are available on line!

30 Incomplete Grades “Incomplete” used when getting a B or better grade for 50% of the work but not full course completion, due to illness, necessary absence, or other satisfactory reason Faculty gives an “I” grade. Discretion of the faculty member! Grade change: 1-3 years to complete the work. If you are conditionally admitted - the advisor must admissions to change your status to full admit. This is critical to enroll for future classes! If you choose to change programs - you are REQUIRED to meet all admission criteria to the new program - it is not just EMU admit it is PROGRAM admit.

31 Repeating Courses A graduate course may be repeated once if the grade is a B- or lower The second grade is used in the GPA calculation; first grade will remain on the transcript. MOST forms are available on line!

32 Course Withdrawal Course Withdrawal – see course schedule on the Records/Registration website for deadline dates! Process paperwork – don’t stop attending class and assume the faculty member knows you withdrew Withdrawal Form – used when emergency situation (e.g., medical) can be documented Records& Registration If you are conditionally admitted - the advisor must admissions to change your status to full admit. This is critical to enroll for future classes! If you choose to change programs - you are REQUIRED to meet all admission criteria to the new program - it is not just EMU admit it is PROGRAM admit.

33 Academic Probation Probation – overall GPA below 3.0
Three enrollment periods on probation, then dismissal Dismissal appeal possible Program Dismissal can also occur due to unprofessional/unethical behavior, failure to pass comprehensive exams, or mutual agreement that this is not the program for you. MOST forms are available on line!

34 Thesis/Capstone You must identify a research topic and write thesis/capstone php Support: Internal Review Board (IRB – in ORDA), ORDA, the Graduate School Opportunities to present your work: Professional conferences (on, off- campus) Graduate Research Conference

35 Human or Animal Subjects: IRB process
Any research involving human or animal subjects must have prior written approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) University Human Subjects Review Committee (UHSRC) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Evidence of IRB review must be included with thesis/dissertation submission Many of you will be doing research…..make sure it is approved in ADVANCE.

36 Tips Communicate with your Advisor and faculty members regularly
Address problems early If you do not know specifically who to call for help, first ask your advisor – then call the Graduate School Use your resources: library, writing lab, DRC, etc. Statistical consulting support available Attend special topic workshops during the year Your syllabus is your contract ~ follow it. The job of every person on this campus is student success, so let us help you when you need it.
