3 Pen Tool Geometric Series A geometric series is the sum of the terms of a geometric sequence. Write the general formula for the sum of the first n terms of a geometric series with the first term, t 1, and the common ratio, r. Chapter 1 If the first term, the common ratio, and the nth term are known, write a variation of the above formula. Answer

4 Pen Tool Geometric Series Jason is drawing a squared spiral on a paper. If each new segment is 2 times the length of the previous segment and the length of the first segment is 2 cm, determine the total length of the spiral if there are 7 segments in total. Chapter 1 Click here for the solution. Answer The total length of the segments is 254 cm.

5 Pen Tool The following pages contain solutions for the previous questions. Click here to return to the start

6 Pen Tool Solutions Go back to the question t 1 = 2 r = 2 n = 7 t 1 (r n – 1) r – 1 S n = 2 (2 7 – 1) 2 – 1 S n = 2 (127) 2 – 1 S n = S n = 254 The total length of the segments is 254 cm.
