2 Aims of the evening To inform you of what the tests involve. To help you better prepare your children for the tests. To allay any fears and answer any questions you may have about the tests.

4 Test Timetable Test Weeks Week beginning 11 th May: Reading, SPaG and Maths levels 3-5 (External marker) Writing-Teacher Assessment. (Finalised end June.) Science- Teacher Assessment. Finalised end June.) Level 6 papers in same week- Reading, SPaG and Maths (External marker)

5 Morning- 3-5 testsAfternoon- Level 6 Monday English – Reading Test (60 mins) English – Reading Test (10 + 50 mins) Tuesday English – Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Test (45 mins + 15/20 mins) English – Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Tests (3 tests) Wednesday Maths – Mental Mathematics Test (20 mins) Maths – Mathematics Paper 1 (45 mins NO calculator) No Tests Thursday Maths – Mathematics Paper 2 (45 mins NO calculator) Maths – Paper 1 (30 mins: NO calculator allowed)Maths – Paper 2 (30 mins: Calculator allowed) FridayNo Tests

6 Mathematics Mental Mathematics Test. 20 questions on a cd. Time Limits for each question. 2 papers. No calculators allowed. Level 6 papers. (2x 30 mins)

7 English- Reading Reading test 60 minutes. See Sample reading materials. (50 Marks) Changes in format from 2014. Level 6 paper. (60 mins)

8 English- SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) 1 Test 50 marks grammar (45 mins), 20 marks spelling (15/20 mins) See sample questions Level 6 papers. (3 papers- 1 spelling (10/15 mins), 1 grammar (20 mins) and 1 composition task (30 mins))

9 English- Writing Teacher assessment over the whole year across a range of genres and subjects. (Assessment levels 2-6) No test.

10 Test Administration Independent work. Working in the hall. Teachers may read parts of questions in Maths unless pupil receives 1-1 help and fit SEND criteria; where a greater level of reading assistance can be given in Maths only. Working to rigid test times.

11 Preparation English, Maths and Science lessons for the last 3 ½ years. Booster programme in school time. Homework activities. (Increased quantities) Test practice questions in lessons. Mock SATs week.

12 Marking and results. External markers. (All papers marked onscreen) Results from tests. Results of teacher assessments.

13 Level 3 and below represents achievement below the nationally expected standard for most 11-year-olds. Level 4b represents achievement at the nationally expected standard for most 11-year-olds. (Soon to be called ‘Secondary Ready’) Levels 5 and 6 represent achievement above the nationally expected standard for most 11-year-olds. Pupils working at N or W may also be recorded.

15 After the tests How results are used: Preparation for key stage 3. Summer School at JLV- (1 st week of Holidays) Sets/groupings in Y7 Predictions for GCSE.
