1 February 4 th & 5 th (SPAN 2) Bell ringer: Verb of the day: Licuar – to liquefy/melt down On the top of the index card, write today’s date. Then write today’s verb and draw a picture to help you remember the meaning of the verb. On the back side of the same index card, write the meaning of the verb in English. Write a sentence in Spanish saying….. “I liquefy/melt the chocolate on the stove.”

3 ILAN Bowling Night All French, Latin, & Spanish students are invited to attend our 1 st annual MSM Bowling Night on Tuesday, March 10 th from 6:00 – 8:00pm @ Professor Bowl in Little Rock. Cost is $3 per game (which includes shoe rental) Students who play at least 1 full game will receive a 10 point quiz replacement pass!

4 QUIZ TIME: Grammar Quiz # 14: Superlatives Take out a sheet of paper and number from 1 to 10. Don’t forget to write your heading! Flip your paper over when you finish and then SIT QUIETLY! You can put your head down on your desk, draw a picture, or write me a note while you wait for your classmates to finish testing!

5 Homework check: Last class you were asked to complete WB pg. 93 in el cuaderno de práctica. Please place your work on your desk now, so that you can get a completion stamp. We will go over the correct answers together. You should be checking & correcting your answers!

6 Ch. 8 Goals “La comida” Learn vocabulary to talk about food and describe meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) Review how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the preterite past tense (“slipper verbs”) Review: how to use double object pronouns to avoid repetition Culture - Identify some native fruits & vegetables of the Americas & some special dishes of Latin America Learn how to use comparisons of equality, inequality, and irregular comparisons to compare 2 people or things. (better than, more than, etc.) Learn how to use superlatives to express the highest or lowest degree of a quality (the best, the worst, etc.)

7 USEFUL PHRASES: Me gustaría…… (I would like…) ¿Me trae…..? (Could you bring me…?) La cuenta, por favor. (The check, please.) ¿Hay un plato especial hoy? (Is there a special today?)

8 Project: El Menú (PART 1) Task: Using vocabulary words from Chapter 8 & food vocab. from www.wordreference.com, you will create a menu in Spanish for a brand new restaurant in your hometown. www.wordreference.com You may choose any font and color. This is your project. Take pride in it and make it look colorful, nice, and readable. NO English! THE COVER PAGE – You must include: 1) a cover design with a picture, the restaurant name (in Spanish), fake address in your hometown, your name listed as the owner, & the days/hours you are open. INSIDE THE MENU- You must include: 2) Sections for: drinks, appetizers, main dishes, & deserts * Include at least 3 drinks, 3 appetizers, 5 main dishes, & 3 desserts. * For the main dishes only, give a brief description of what else comes with it. 3) Give each item a realistic price in U.S. dollars. 4) Add pictures to make it look attractive, but don’t go overboard. At least 1, but no more than 2 pictures per section!
