2 INTRODUCTION Hello my name is Yovanka Kelly and I am a teacher at ABC Academy. I am here to discuss with the people of the community about the school in their community, what students are doing in/for the community and how the community can best support the school and its students. 3 THE SCHOOL ABC Academy is a high school with about 900 students. It was built in 1978 and the graduation rate is about 92.2%. Within the school the students are taught respect for others and they are expected to perform 20 hours of community service every month. ABC Academy is a high school with about 900 students. The goal of the school is to develop the students into outstanding citizens in their community. As a teacher there, I have witnessed that the students enjoy performing community service and they enjoy the atmosphere of the school. 4 EXAMPLES OF STUDENTS VOLUNTEERING

5 WHAT STUDENTS ARE DOING IN THE COMMUNITY? In the community the students spend their time doing community service. Some students volunteer at libraries and some read stories to children at local elementary schools. The ROTC program at school has adopted a portion of the community surrounding the school and every other month they get together and pick up trash to make sure that the community is clean. Also, some of the football players offer their free time and they may do some yard work for some of the older people in the community. So the students at ABC High really are active in the community and they are always there to help out if you need it. 6 PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO VOLUNTEER Within this graph it shows the amount of 8 th, 10 th, and 12 th graders who volunteer at least once a month. Based on these results it shows that high schoolers are the ones who are most likely to volunteer their time.

7 HOW CAN THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT THE SCHOOL AND ITS STUDENTS The community can support the school and its students by supporting the students at the local football games. This support will show the players that they are behind them and they ate there to support them. also, the community can come out to different events such as the annual community car wash which is where the students raise money for the school. The community can also give donations to the school for equipment for the students. Volunteering time in the school whether it being in the office doing clerical work, becoming a member of the PTA or even just helping teachers grade papers. 8 HOW CAN THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT THE SCHOOL AND ITS STUDENTS These are just a few suggestions on how the community can support the school and the students.
