2 Biodiversity is the way in which plants and animals co-exist in the ecosystem. Coral Reefs form some of the most productive ecosystems. They provide shelter for many of the marine life. Animals that use the coral reefs as their home include: Sponges, fish like: Groupers, Clown Fish Eels etc. An example of biodiversity is the way in which mangroves and coral reefs help each other. Coral Reefs protect mangroves by being a barrier for them so that the waves would have to get through the coral reefs before reaching the mangroves. Mangroves help coral reefs because the roots also provide shelter for some smaller sea creatures that couldn’t survive in the coral reefs at that young age.

3 Coral Reefs are mostly built from stony coral. Coral Reefs are made by tiny marine animals called polyps Coral Reefs are sometimes referred too as the “rainforests of the sea”. Coral Reefs are held together by calcium carbonate which is secreted by coral. Coral Reefs are home tom any marine life in the oceans.

4 In many countries around the world coral reefs are used as an attraction for people to see and enjoy in order to make income for the country. Because the reefs are so attractive people go diving and touch the coral reefs not knowing that he ph. of our skin can kill the coral reefs, also people catch fish or lobster by using bleach which decolourises the coral reefs and kills them, also fishermen carelessly dropping anchors on the reefs.

5 There are 3 main types of Coral Reefs: Fringing, Barrier and Atoll Reefs. Fringing Reefs- are directly attached to a shore, or borders it with an intervening shallow channel or lagoon. Atoll Reefs- are more or less circular or continuous barrier reefs extend all the way around a lagoon without a central island. Barrier Reefs- are separated from a mainland or island shore by a deep channel or lagoon.
