2 Use bigger fonts What is wrong if you see this? I like to think of Microsoft PowerPoint as a test of basic marketing skills. To create a passing presentation, I need to demonstrate design skills, technical literacy, and a sense of personal style. If the presentation has a problem (like an unintended font, a broken link, or unreadable text), then I’ve probably failed the test. Even if my spoken presentation is well rehearsed, a bad visual experience can ruin it for the audience. Expertise means nothing without a good presentation to back it up. 3 Use bigger fonts Why? 1.Nobody will be able to see the words in a font less than 20 (including yourself)! 2.Remind you to include only necessary information. 3.Your audience can get important information you want to say during the presentation.

7 Don’t simply read the words!  If you do not understand the content, your audience will not understand, too.  Any pause or mispronunciation will minus your points.  If any of the listeners ask questions, how can you answer them?  You will lose your audience’s attention in five seconds.

8 Cite your information source What if someone used your creation/work, but did not inform you first? How would you feel? What would you do? Please respect others and properly cite the websites (sources) you found the information and images.

9 Cite your information source It is easy to find information from the internet, and it is as easy to cite the sources. 10 Practice & Get Prepared Stage Fright This is normal, for we all get nervous in front of a group of people.

11 What can we do? Practice, practice, and practice (There is no other way. Rome is not built in a day)

12 Volume & Eye contacts Make sure everyone can hear you. Look at your audience (not your notes!). Use gestures (Move your hands and body.)

13 Don’t write down everything and memorize it!  This is an oral presentation, not an essay!  This is not a test of your memory!  You are not a robot or a computer, move and show your energy.  Add your (group’s) unique style into the PPT design.

14 Not something like this! Fail to use the tools in PowerPoint => A plain PPT slide design is not OK. Slides are not visible => Words are too small that people at the last row cannot see. Without a unified style => Our English instructor asked us to do a presentation, so we just put everyone’s slides together right before the class.

15 Not something like this! The audience cannot understand you => I finish my part as fast as I can. The audience cannot see you => I lower my head to read prepared materials. The audience cannot hear you => I am shy, so I whisper.

16 Not something like this! I did not practice => If I cannot say something, I stop and ask other group members in Chinese. I did not move on stage => I just stand there all the time. I did not mention my references => My slides do not point out that I used someone else’s stuffs
