6 LASNTG – Local Authority Services National Training Group A local authority shared services training network 5 Regional Training Centres owned, managed and operated by Local Authorities LASNTG – who we are

LASNTG Training Centres In 1993 the Water Services Training Group was established. Recommendations included the establishment of a Training Centre Network around the Country. In 1996, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government approved the plan for setting up five Training Centres in Ballincollig, Roscrea, Castlebar, Stranorlar and Dublin. A comprehensive programme of courses has been developed for a broad range of disciplines. Water Roads Environment Fire (new) Libraries (new) Wider range and private sector role helps ensure sustainability and ultimately beneficial for local authorities

24 Where we are now Economic climate puts access to training under pressure so programmes need rethink and redesign Blended/eLearning has been developed and implemented Government policy/legislation needs support in practice Local Authorities merging, re-staffing and different profiles - needs changing Potential to be a key player in contributing to - training the next generation of skilled workers - continuing professional development - providing relevant skills in rebuilding the economy
