5 Cross Curricular BIG Questions Autumn Term LC: Why is the Wii more fun than grandma and grandads toys? Why does it get darker in the Winter? Why can’t a meerkat live in the North Pole? Spring Term Which materials do we use to build a house? What do Aliens think of life on planet Earth? Where do and did the wheels on the bus go? Summer Term Which birds and plants would you find in our school field? Why are humans not like tigers?

6 Learning and Teaching Children learn in different ways and we address this through our teaching; visual, auditory, kinaesthetic ICT - 1 session per week, interactive whiteboards, iPad Trips Teacher Assessment Theme days Whole School Celebrations

7 Maths and English Maths, including mental maths and application is taught each week. English is creatively explored through drama, role play, speaking and listening, group activities and purposeful writing. We include our phonics.

8 Phonics Phonics is taught for 20 minutes daily. Spellings are linked to our phonics programme. Children learn through the Jolly Phonics Programme, links can be accessed via DB Primary.

9 Home Learning Home Reading 3x per week (record in yellow Reading Records) Homework Given out on Friday, hand in by Wednesday Spellings Handed out on Thursday, tested the following Thursday

10 Behaviour Good to be Green All children start the day on Green If they stay Green all week they receive a sticker and token to spend in ‘Good to be Green’ shop Rewarding good behaviour Warning, Turn card, Warning, change to Amber, warning change to Red Time out to reflect on behaviour

11 Core Values We are kind are caring We look after our school We always tell the truth We Listen and try our best We show respect Every Friday, a child is chosen to receive a star for showing exceptional effort towards that weeks chosen core value.

12 Praised Effort Perseverance Percy the Penguin celebrates children that are independent learners and try their best when facing challenges, even when stuck. Tick Chart Ticks are given to praise effort and perseverance. Certificates are given one children finish each tick chart; bronze, silver, gold.

13 Parents- How you can help? Stay Connected – Use DB Primary Homework Reading Enrichment PE Kit/Uniform/Jewellery (studs only, cover studs) Talking with children Water Bottles Healthy nut free snack for break Higher expectations from Government- need to work together Keep us informed!
