THE SOLAR SYSTEM BY WALTER MOODY

THE SUN The Sun takes up 99.86 od the mass of the entire solar system! Also its powerful gravity attracts everything in the solar system The bigger the planet or object the more gravity

MERCURY Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, but it is 36 million miles away Mercury goes at 107,373 miles per hour because of its proximity to the sun. There were only two spacecraft's that have landed on the planet

VENUS Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system and also the brightest Venus is very similar to earth because of its continents and also mountains It can also be seen from earth in the day time

EARTH! Earth is the only planet with a livable substances like water and oxygen It is also 93 million miles away from the sun Our Planet has 21% of oxygen in its atmosphere so we can breathe

THE MOON The soviet spacecraft gave it a visit first The moon is sometimes called a terrestrial "planet“ The very first landing was on July 20 1969 which is now a historical day for us

MARS Mars has the nickname the red planet because its mineral called iron oxide is on the surface of mars Mars also has the biggest mountain in the solar system The mountain also stretches 15 miles high and the mountain is called Olympus Mons

OUTER PLANETS

JUPITER Jupiter is one of the very first gas giants in the solar system Instead of air it has helium, hydrogen, ammonia, and methane Also Jupiter is one of the planets that have lots of storms

SATURN Study’s say that Saturn's rings are made of ice! It is exactly 890 million miles away from the sun Saturn owns the 2 nd largest moon in the solar system Titan.

URANUS Uranus is the smallest of all the gas giants The middle of Uranus has a frozen mass of methane Also its axis is on its side so it spins on its side

NEPTUNE Neptune is the farthest planet from the sun so there for it’s the coldest It’s a Gas giant its made up of hydrogen, and also helium! It has very large storms and they happen a lot

BLACK HOLE Black holes are the cold remnants of former stars so no matter what even light is not able to escape their powerful gravitational pull. Black holes are small in size. A million-solar-mass hole, like that believed to be at the center of some galaxies All information comes from this site http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/space/univers e/black-holes-article/information from this slide is from national geographic

COMETS! Comets come from two places The Kuiper Belt and also the Oort Cloud. Unfortunately, comets don't live very long once they enter the warmer part of the Solar System. A comet is a small world which scientists sometimes call a planetesimal. They are made out of dust and ice, kind of like a dirty snow ball. All information comes from http://www.kidsastronomy.com/comets.htm
