10 10 Effective Partnerships between the Public Workforce System and Libraries Goals of the Federal Partnership The partnership between ETA and IMLS pursues two main objectives:  Sharing data and information (e.g., locations, LMI, course offerings) between the workforce system and public libraries and  Publicizing and encouraging successful partnerships at the state and local levels.  Both objectives advance the Secretary of Labor’s goal of Good Jobs for Everyone as well as the acquisition of 21 st Century skills, a topic of particular focus for IMLS.

21 21 Effective Partnerships between the Public Workforce System and Libraries Findings from Opportunity for All  More than 77 million people over the age of 14 used a library computer last year.  30 million people used library computers to help address career and employment needs.  Among these users, 76 percent reported that they searched for jobs online.  Among job seekers, 68 percent went on to apply for a job or submit a resume.  23 percent used library computers to receive job-related training.  3.7 million people reported finding work using a library computer.

22 22 Effective Partnerships between the Public Workforce System and Libraries Findings from FY2008 Public Libraries Survey  Circulation per capita has also generally increased during the past 10 years, increasing by 19.7 percent since FY1999  Library visitation per capita has steadily increased over the past 10 years.  The availability of Internet terminals has nearly doubled over the past 10 years in response to patron demand.

23 23 Effective Partnerships between the Public Workforce System and Libraries Project Compass  An innovative IMLS-funded project linking libraries nationwide to share strategies for helping unemployed patrons find work.  Launched by OCLC WebJunction and the State Library of North Carolina,  Project Compass features: –four regional summits for state library officers to share best practices on meeting the workforce needs of their communities. –an online hub to help librarians share ideas and resources designed to help get their communities fully employed. www.webjunction.org/workforce-resources www.webjunction.org/workforce-resources

Over 3200 people attend the Power Employment Workshops. 37 37 Effective Partnerships between the Public Workforce System and Libraries Local Workforce Investment Areas Partnerships and Interactions LWIA 10:  Workforce Division of Will County Library Partnership includes: Free WinWay Resume software for public use to participating libraries through an ARRA grant.software for public Job search workshop curricula, and job readiness training for library staff. A total of 17 libraries in Will County, including the 10 participating with the Mobile Workforce Center.  The Mobile Workforce Center—Mobile computer lab with 11 computers and staff that travel daily to assist individuals that may not have access to computers or work readiness services. In PY 2010 the MWC made 281 visits throughout Will County and served 1661 customers.
