INTRODUCTION Due to Industrial revolution metro cities are getting very thickly populated and availability of land goes on decreasing. Due to which multistory buildings are being constructed on uneven or sloping grounds. When a tall building is constructed the overall loads acting on the structure will be increasing along with earth quake forces depending upon the zones. Thus ultimately the cross-section of the structure will get increase and the cost of the structure will go up so uneconomical. To overcome this Bracing system is provided to these frames to resist different types lateral and gravity loads and make the section economical.

In this project 5 different types of Bracing systems are considered at identical positions of building system to analyze them and check their performance level under various types of loads. The 5 different types of bracing system considered are K, X, V, INVERTED V and DIAGONAL Bracings. These models are analyzed using ETABS v9.7 Software using different types of loading system as per Indian code system. For the analysis of these models following methods has been used. Equivalent Static Method, Response Spectrum Method and Push over analysis.

Types of Bracing systems DIAGONALK XINVERTED VV

Design data A plan of ( 20*25)m is taken with height of each floor is 3m. Column section -(0.9*0.45)m Beam section - (0.5*0.35)m Slab thickness -.0150m Bracing section is standard ISLC-225 is considered. Seismic zone 4 and zone 5 are considered. Medium type of soil is considered.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the response of multi-storeyed RC building structure resting on sloping ground with different bracing systems subjected to seismic loading and to identify the suitable bracing system for resisting the seismic load efficiently. Finding out the deflections & storey drift at each storey using response spectrum method, equivalent static method, push over analysis. To observe the level of change of internal forces and storey drift for different types of braced models with the bare frame model.

To investigate the seismic performance of a multi-storeyed RC building with different bracing arrangements such as X, inverted V, V, diagonals and K bracings using Nonlinear Static Pushover analysis method.

LITERATURE REVIEW 1. “Behaviour of Multistorey RCC Structure with Different Type of Bracing System (A Software Approach)” by NAUMAN MOHAMMED and ISLAM NAZRUL. He has done the analysis of G+14 floors carried out using STAAD V8i software for special moment resisting frame situated in zone 4 and concluded that the displacement of the structure decreases after the application of bracing system. The maximum reduction in the lateral displacement occurs after the application of cross bracing system. Bracing system reduces bending moments and shear forces in the columns.

2.“Nonlinear seismic behavior of RC frames with RC Braces” by A.R. KHALOO and M. MAHDI MOHSENI. In this study Two different braced frames with K and X braces are analyzed numerically for four, eight and twelve story buildings. This study focuses on evaluation of strength, stiffness, ductility and energy absorption of reinforced concrete braced frames and comparison with similar moment resisting frames and frames with shear wall. According to this study it is concluded that besides effective lateral stiffness rising in reinforced concrete braced frames, there is a considerable amount of energy dissipation during earthquake loading.

3. M.D. KEVADKAR and P.B. KODAG on “Lateral Load Analysis of R.C.C. Building” In this study R.C.C. building is modeled and analyzed in three Parts I) Model without bracing and shear wall II) Model with different shear wall system III) ) Model with Different bracing system to find out the effective lateral load system during earthquake in high seismic areas. According to his study he concluded that the Capacity of the steel braced structure is more as compare to the shear wall structure. Steel bracing has more margin of safety against collapse as compare with shear wall.

Experimental program The software used for the analysis in is ETABS v9.7 The parameters considered are 1. Non-linear static analysis (Pushover analysis). 2. Performance point 3. Base Shear 4. Fundamental natural period 5. Ductility ratio and Hinge status at performance point. 6. Storey Displacement Codes considered for design criteria are IS456-2000 & IS1893-2002

Project progress A G+12 building resting on sloping ground with bare frame is analyzed considering zone 4 &5 and also with different soil conditions. Further buildings with different types of bracings systems modeling is in progress and has to be analysed.
