9 Save the Children in India Save the Children India is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance We currently operate in 12 states and union territories in India Our work has reached over 3 million children in India Currently working in: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Mizoram, New Delhi, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal

14 Quality Inclusive Education Our Goal To promote access and retention to quality inclusive education in government schools To strengthen the capacities of existing government schools and their governance To improve participation of children, their parents and the community in education planning To improve learning levels of children To reduce drop out rates of children

15 What We Do Promote learner friendly inclusive environments by effective community participation and active learning methodologies Creating sustainable programmes through building capacities of the education system, and using our projects as pilots to demonstrate ‘best practices’ We work on collaborative models between Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Human Resource Development, so that children are provided stimulating learning environments and receive quality basic education Partnering with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Education for All) in various states

17 Child Protection Our Goal To rescue and rehabilitate children from working environments To encourage children to pursue their education To promote professional vocational training for older children To strengthen existing government and state child protection systems Social mobilising campaigns

18 What We Do Integrated and community based approach Build the capacity of communities, facilitate forums and venues by which children can raise their own voices Providing technical support to government child protection agencies and promoting greater accountability towards protection policies and legislation Help move out children from working situations Rehabilitation of the rescued children and mainstreaming in schools, providing vocational and life skill training Child Protection in emergencies

19 Child Survival 1. Rajasthan 2. West Bengal We work in 6 districts in 2 states, reaching out to 20,000 children Our Child Survival Campaign aims to impact more than one million children in the next five years

20 Child Survival Our Goal To increase the chances of survival of children between the ages of 0-5 years of age To reduce levels of malnutrition and under nutrition in children To improve new born and maternal health To steer the behaviour of communities towards better child health and nutrition practices

21 What We Do Analyse local situation to access health needs and existing gaps in neonatal and under 5 care Facilitate coordination between the Department of Health and Family Welfare and DWCD for ensuring effective delivery of Government’s health and nutritional delivery systems Strengthening community involvement and role of civil society partnerships with India’s health systems through advocacy and capacity building Capacity building of community health workers on maternal and child health nutrition

22 Relief, Rehabilitation & Child Centred Disaster Risk Reduction 1. Andaman & Nicobar Islands 2. Bihar 3. Jammu & Kashmir 4. Mizoram 5. Orissa 6. Tamil Nadu 7. West Bengal We work in 23 districts in 7 states, reaching out to 140,000 children

23 Child Centred Disaster Risk Reduction Our Goal To increase preparedness of children and their families for emergency situations in the aftermath of natural disasters through child centred and community based approaches To manage disasters better To minimise the impact of natural disasters to communities in disaster prone areas To build child centred resilient communities

24 What We Do We work in disaster prone communities to ensure that they are prepared to deal with a natural disaster before it occurs again We work to ensure that child centred disaster risk reduction (CCDRR) is mainstreamed into education curriculum We negotiate with Government of India ministries and nodal institutions at national, state, district, panchayat and village levels to integrate child centred disaster risk reduction in disaster risk management (DRM) policy and planning

25 Emergency Response We distribute relief supplies during emergencies and assist with long term rehabilitation efforts We operate child friendly spaces supporting children’s psychological needs as well as carrying out nutritional and healthcare assessments. We ensure that children are able to continue with their schooling by providing them with a safe space to learn in the aftermath of disasters. We also protect children from being trafficked for commercial sex work and child labour.
