Carry-on bag Personal item

Washington, DC Packing List American Academy Fall 2016 Label Everything!! Don’t over pack! A common mistake is to take too many clothes, unnecessary toiletries, etc. You must be able to carry your own luggage. Usually one suitcase and a backpack are sufficient. American Academy doesn’t cover checked baggage fees (checked bags are $25). To avoid these fees, you may bring a carry-on suitcase and a backpack on the plane at no extra cost. Be sure to follow the TSA restrictions on the amount of liquids or gels that can be packed in carry-on bags. You can bring a single 1-quart-sized zip-top clear plastic bag with 3.4-ounce bottles or less. Make sure everything follows dress-of-choice rules for American Academy

Items to Bring Season-appropriate clothing (one set per day) Wind/waterproof jacket Sweatshirt Sleepwear Undergarments/socks Comfortable walking/hiking shoes Sandals/flip-flops for down time Spending money (about $50) Hat (for sun protection) Sunscreen Sunglasses Camera and charger or batteries (Be careful!) Cell phone and charger (Be careful!) Toiletries (Toothbrush, toothpaste, cosmetics, hair brush, comb, glasses, contacts, solution, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.) Small backpack or daypack Plastic water bottle that fits in pack Pen or pencil There is a pool…

Optional Items Travel alarm clock/watch Snacks for plane ride (NO NUT products) Insect repellent (wipes are recommended) Pillow Blanket Magazines Books Hand Sanitizer DO NOT BRING Any gum, candy, or anything else that is going to get you into trouble. Treat this like a school day.

*** Anything packed in suitcase will be under the bus until we unload at the hotel. Please make sure any item needed for the bus ride is in your backpack. All meals are paid for on the trip. Spending money is for souvenirs and any snacks or drinks the students might want to purchase. We are not responsible for lost items. Students have and do lose mobile phones, etc. We recommend a refillable water bottle for water for the trip. Please feel free to pack a few snacks for the plane trip going to DC. We do have students with nut allergies so please refrain from those types of snacks at all cost. There will be a lot of walking on this trip and water in the backpack is helpful. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS TRIP POSSIBLE!
