4 Key aims for the day To learn about the latest figures in relation to LAC’s educational achievements. To know who is a LAC and why, difference care orders and role of Children’s Social Care. To raise awareness of Attachment and its impact on education. The impact of Care Matters legislation on the role of the DT for LAC. To learn about PEPs and the Pupil Premium. How to support LAC in school. The opportunity to meet other Designated Teachers and LACES staff. The opportunity to share good practice and raise key issues affecting LAC in your setting. An opportunity to discuss ideas for cascading LAC information to other members of staff.

5 Morning session 9.30 – 12.45 LAC quiz Being in care – who is a LAC and why, care orders, the new structure and role of Children’s Social Care. Refreshments (10.30) Supporting the education of LAC – attachment awareness session. Role of DT and support of LAC in school.

6 Afternoon session (1.30-3.30) PEPs and Pupil Premium. Group Work - Case Studies Supporting LAC in your school. Further training/advice/support needs. Course evaluation.

7 Personal Education Plan On you table you will find a scenario that is typical of a lot of children in care. With your colleagues discuss: Who you would expect to attend the PEP meeting What preparation the various parties make before the meeting Suggest SMART targets

8 Case study On your table you will find a case study. Discuss with your colleagues what actions need to be taken and what plans need to be formulated to address the young person’s educational needs.

9 Supporting LAC in your schools Using the form provided, discuss the following questions: What are the issues for LAC in your school? Are these issues being addressed at the moment / how can that be achieved? What improvements can you make to raise educational attainment for your LAC? Prepare an action plan
