2. COMMUNITY CENTRE ALLIANCE  Community Centre Alliance was established in 2002 as a referral agency to provincial government’s programs  In 2006, it was established as an Employment Assistance Office  In 2015, CCA became a registered charity 2

OUR MANDATE….  The Community Centre Alliance (CCA) is a not-for profit organization and registered charity that fosters the development of its community centre members and their residents through programming and partnerships with other community centres, community leaders and stakeholders  CCA provides programs and services to support employment, literacy, education, and social economic development in our community center neighborhoods. 3

4. WHAT IS CCA’S PURPOSE? CCA was established for the following purposes:  To relieve poverty by providing job training and job placement services in order to gain work experience before full entry into the job market;  To advance education by providing employment-related training, career counselling, resume writing, and preparing for job interview;  To advance education by providing basic job training skills included but not limited to customer service skills, communication skills, tourism essentials, WHMIS, time management skills, first-aid and housekeeping skills;  To advance education by providing free homework tutoring to children in grade 7 to 12;  To advance education by providing publicly available scholarships, bursaries and other forms of financial assistance to students living in low income housing communities in Newfoundland and Labrador to be used for secondary, or post-secondary education; 4

COMMUNITY CENTRE ALLIANCE CCA is an incorporated non-profit and a Charitable Organization that supports the work of the following five community centres in the St. John’s region:  Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre  Froude Avenue Community Centre  MacMorran Community Centre  Rabbittown Community Centre  Virginia Park Community Centre 5

6. PROGRAMS & SERVICES The CCA provides programs and services to support Our community resident’s goals around:  Career, Skill Development, Education & Employment  Literacy & Learning  Economic Development  Community outreach and referral  Workshops & Guest Speakers 6

CAREER & EMPLOYMENT Community Employment Facilitators provide career & Employment services:  Labor Market Information  Resumes and job interview coaching  Career Exploration  Referrals to other Community and Government Programs and Services  Delivering Career & Employment workshops  Help to alleviate barriers to employment 7

8. LINKAGES PROGRAM  In Partnership with Advanced Skills & Education  Purpose of the program is to assist youth in making a post-secondary plan while overcoming barriers to employment  Orientation includes first aid, customer service skills, Resume writing & Interview skills  For youth ages 18-30 years  Must have at least Gr. 11 (Level II)  NL Housing & Income Support recipients  Youth are employed for 26 weeks  Become EI eligible (A minimum of 910 hours in the qualifying period may be needed to qualify if you are in the work force for the first time or if you are re-entering the work force after an absence of two or more years).  $10.50 Hour wage subsidy 8

VALUE OF WORK, VALUE OF MONEY WAS AWARDED THE CROSS CANADA DIALOGUES AWARD FOR MOST INNOVATIVE PROGRAM FOR YOUTH  Employs 10 youth: 2 from each community centre as Summer Camp Counsellors.  For youth in Level I, II & III or enrolled into a ABE program  Orientation includes: First Aid, Customer Service, Financial Literacy, Career Exploration, Suicide Intervention  NL Housing & Income support recipients  Youth are employed for 8 weeks @ 30 hours per centre  Volunteer placement at a non-profit organization 9
