3 Course Title: Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1 - Novice Low – Novice High Course Number: 0709300 Credit: 1.00 Grade Level: 9-12 Course Level: 2 Major Concepts/Content: The purpose of this course is to enable students whose heritage language is Spanish to develop, maintain, and enhance proficiency in their heritage language by reinforcing and acquiring skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, including the fundamentals of Spanish grammar. Language Arts Standards are also included in this course to enable students to become literate in the Spanish language and gain a better understanding of the nature of their own language as well as other languages to be acquired.

LITERACY: Language Arts Florida Language Standards LAFS.8.L.1.1 English grammar/usage when writing/speaking. a) Explain the function of verbals (gerunds/participles/infinitives) in general/in sentences. b) Form and use verbs in active/passive voice. c)Form and use verbs in the indicative/imperative/interrogative/conditional/sibjunctive mood. d) Recognize/correct inappropriate shifts in verb voice/mood LAFS.8.L.1.2 English capitalization, punctuation, spelling when writing a) Punctuation (comma/ellipsis/dash) to indicate pause or break b) Use ellipsis to indicate omission c) Spell correctly LAFS.8.L.2.3 Knowledge of language/conventions when writing/speaking/reading/listening a) Use verbs in active/passive voice and in conditional/subjunctive mood to achieve effect

6 Sample Activity: Standard 3: Interpersonal Communication Essential Question: Can you talk about a past shopping experience? In pairs, students will take turns: 1.tell each others where they went 2.what articles of clothing they bought 3.describe all articles purchased 4.how much money they spent 5.make comparisons on how much they bought and spent WL.K12.IL.3.6 (DOK 2, 3) In groups of 4 1.Develop an activity using the standard and benchmark given to you. 1.Explain to the group how to implement the activity. 1.The group will discuss each activity and give constructive suggestions.
