 Towarzystwo Społeczno Kulturalne Żydów is the greatest secular Jewish organisation in Poland which rose in 1950 by merging two former organisations – Centralnego Komitetu Żydów w Polsce (Central Committee of Jews in Poland) and Żydowskiego Towarzystwa Kultury i Sztuki (The Jewish Company of Culture and Art). It was modeled on Jewish institutions created before the II World War.

 Representing the Jewish population  Developing the Jewish culture – literature, the art and the science  Promoting of the Yiddish language  Protection of the Jewish legacy in Poland  Financial help and support for members of the organisation  Resembling about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1944

 For many years TSKŻ has been organising cultural events, celebration of anniversaries, exhibits of Jewish art, conferences and lectures, courses of Yiddish language and summer camps for young people. Integration among people with the Jewish origin is very important for the organisation’s members. To take care of Yidish language the organisation formed the publishing company „Jidish Buch” in 1947 in Łódź.

 The organisation has 16 branches in Poland - among others in Wrocław, Katowice, Łódź, Wałbrzych, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Cracow, Poznań and Częstochowa. The registered office of the main management board of the organisation is located in Warsaw, in the building which rose in 1964- 67. The building is located in the Grzybowski Square which with neighbouring streets was a lively Jewish part of Warsaw before the Second World War.

 In the registered office of the organization in Warsaw there is a library in which there are many books in both the Yiddish and Polish languages and a lot of photographs, documents and leaflets which show the life of the Jewish community after 1945. The organisation also publishes a social - cultural monthly magazine in both the Yiddish and Polish languages, called „Słowo Żydowskie / Dos Jidisze Wort”

 Right after the end of the Second World War the organisation had a big influence on the Jewish community. For a lot of decades after the war it shaped the national identity of young Jews. It also supported Jewish schools where Jews were being taught the Yiddish language and the history of Jews and supported the development of the culture. It is an institution which used the Yiddish language, in spite of a common opinion that it is already dead.

One of the branches of the organisation is located in Częstochowa in Dąbrowskiego Street 4/9

 Our students visit Social and Cultural Jews Organisation in Częstochowa very often. There they participate in diffrent meetings, celebrate Jewish holidays, listen to concerts. They are very happy that they had abbility to learn about Jewish culture. I’ll write more about that visites.

 Pupils of our school, on 9th of December 2013 visited TSKŻ to see the performance of well-known Warsaw actor - Sławomir Holland which is well-known from roles in series and films. The actor presented familiar pieces incurred in the interwar period of such authors as Julian Tuwim or Marian Hemar. Pupils were enchanted, and this performance remained the unforgettable experience.

It is supporting local associations and Jewish institutions. After the interesting lecture hosts prepared carrot-coloured cutlets and told about the Hanukkah. Halina.... told the story of her parents and how they had survived the war. This story was very sad but extremely interesting. Halina... talked about their longing for family, which she has never met and the fact that now, after many years of the Second World War, she can understand the history of her ancestors. Guests also have the opportunity to hear traditional Jewish songs and see Halina’s photos and memorabilia.
