US GLOBAL POLITICS

From Geopolitics to Global Politics September 11, 2001 signal the end of era of geopolitics and the rise of an era of global politics (2001 – 2008) The 2008 US economic downturn, however, signal the decline of the era of Global Politics. Since 2008 untill today an uncertain era is on the rise. No one sure what will it be.

The Era of Geopolitics From WW I – WW II – Cold War – Post Cold War NATO expansion. Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary (1997), Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia (2004), Albania, Croatia (2009) joined NATO. Georgia and Ukraine were promised to be invited. South Korea, the Phillipines, Indonesia became democracy. The US is the only truly global power. Its military extends to every points of the globe.

Americanist The United States can use its predominant power to get its way, regardless of what others want. it enables the United States to set its own foreign policy objectives and to achieve them without relying on others. because American power enables the United States to pursue its interests as it pleases, American foreign policy should seek to maintain, extend, and strengthen that relative position of power.

Globalist Combating the spread of infectious diseases, preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction, defeating terrorism, securing access to open markets, protecting human rights, promoting democracy, and preserving the environment all require the cooperation of other countries.

From Military to Diplomacy The US defence secretary, Chuck Hagel, underscored the Obama administration's intention to shift the focus of its foreign policy away from military might toward diplomacy. the US could not rely on its military power alone, promising to send US troops to fight overseas only when "truly necessary".
