Isaiah 3-4
2
Isaiah 3:1-5 “The Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, will take away from Jerusalem and Judah everything they depend on: every bit of bread and every drop of water, 2 all their heroes and soldiers, judges and prophets, fortune-tellers and elders,”
3
“army officers and high officials, advisers, skilled craftsmen, and astrologers. I will make boys their leaders, and toddlers their rulers. People will oppress each other— man against man, neighbor against neighbor. Young people will insult their elders, and vulgar people will sneer at the honorable”
4
“The Lord, the LORD Almighty…” Lord= Adoni - Sovereign, master, controller LORD= YHWH or Jehovah- Eternal, Self-Existent
5
Isaiah 2:6 “For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They are soothsayers like the Philistines, And they are pleased with the children of foreigners.”
6
Leviticus 19:26 “You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying.”
7
Isaiah 3:6-7 “In those days a man will say to his brother, “Since you have a coat, you be our leader! Take charge of this heap of ruins!” But he will reply, ‘No! I can’t help. I don’t have any extra food or clothes. Don’t put me in charge!’”
8
Isaiah 3:8-9 “For Jerusalem will stumble, and Judah will fall, because they speak out against the LORD and refuse to obey Him. They provoke Him to His face. The very look on their faces gives them away. They display their sin like the people of Sodom and don’t even try to hide it. (Woe!) They are doomed! They have brought destruction upon themselves.”
9
Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom"
10
Romans 1:21-25 “because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—”
11
“--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
12
Isaiah 3:10-11 “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, For they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, For the reward of his hands shall be given him.”
13
Galatians 6:7-9 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
14
Hosea 8:7 "They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind…”
15
Isaiah 3:12-15 “Childish leaders oppress My people, and women rule over them. O My people, your leaders mislead you; they send you down the wrong road. The LORD takes His place in court and presents His case against His people!”
16
“The LORD comes forward to pronounce judgment on the elders and rulers of His people: ‘You have ruined Israel, My vineyard. Your houses are filled with things stolen from the poor. How dare you crush My people, grinding the faces of the poor into the dust?” demands the Lord, The LORD of Heaven’s Armies.”
17
Isaiah 3:16-4:1 “ The LORD also says: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, walking with heads held high and seductive eyes, going along with prancing steps, jingling their ankle bracelets, the Lord will put scabs on the heads of the daughters of Zion,”
18
“and the LORD will shave their foreheads bare. On that day the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents, pendants, bracelets, veils, headdresses, ankle jewelry, sashes, perfume bottles, amulets, signet rings, nose rings,”
19
“festive robes, capes, cloaks, purses, garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils 24 “Instead of perfume there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of beautifully styled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothes, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding.”
20
“Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. Then her gates will lament and mourn; deserted, she will sit on the ground.”
21
Isaiah 4:1 “On that day seven women will seize one man, saying, ‘We will eat our own bread and provide our own clothing. Just let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace.’”
22
“After God’s original indictment or “lawsuit” (1:2–31) He gave a promise of restoration (2:1–5). Now at the close of the stinging reiteration of judgment (2:6–4:1) is another section on comfort (4:2–6). In spite of the terrible blow facing the nation because of its sin, some people would survive.
23
Isaiah’s initial audience might have thought he was speaking of those who would survive the Exile (Babylon). However, in the light of Matthew 24:4–30 he was referring to the people who will survive the difficulties in the Great Tribulation just before the Lord Jesus Christ returns to set up His kingdom.”
24
Isaiah 4:2-6 “On that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of Israel’s survivors. Whoever remains in Zion and whoever is left in Jerusalem will be called holy —”
25
“Some interpreters say the Branch of the L ORD, who is beautiful and glorious, refers to the believing remnant. It seems better, however, to take the “Branch” as a reference to the Messiah since this is its meaning in…”
26
Jeremiah 23:5 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.”
27
Wiersbe also agrees with this understanding, “The ‘Branch of the Lord’ is a messianic title for Jesus Christ who came as a “shoot” from the seemingly dead stump of David’s dynasty” (11:1; 53:2; see Jer. 23:5; 33:15; Zech. 3:8; 6:12)
28
Isaiah 4:3-4 “--all in Jerusalem who are destined to live — when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodguilt from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of burning.”
29
5 “Then the LORD will create a cloud of smoke by day and a glowing flame of fire by night over the entire site of Mount Zion and over its assemblies. For there will be a canopy over all the glory, and there will be a booth for shade from heat by day, and a refuge and shelter from storm and rain.”
30
Zephaniah 3:14-15 “Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more.” 630 B.C.
31
A brief understanding of end- times prophecy or eschatology as it’s known, the study of end times. The next big event on the horizon will most likely be the Church being “caught up” to meet the Lord in the air. This is known as the “Rapture” found in 1Thessalonians 4:16-17.
32
Next will be a seven year agreement between Israel and the Antichrist, which the Antichrist breaks after 31/2 years. This seven year period is known as The Great Tribulation period when God pours out His wrath upon the God rejecting nations of the world.
33
During this same time Israel will recognize that Jesus is their Messiah and begin to worship Him. Jesus will than supernaturally protect or “seal” 144,000 Jews that will evangelize the world for Christ. Many people who come to faith in Christ but will be martyred by the Antichrist for their faith during that time.
34
At the end of this seven year period Jesus will return for a final battle with the nations of the world, known as Armageddon. Not much to do except for Jesus to speak and it’s done! By the way, the Church, us, will be with Jesus when He returns!
35
Then Jesus will establish Himself as the Sovereign King, His capitol will be Jerusalem. We will rule and reign with Jesus upon the earth. Jesus will reign for 1000 years or a Millennium. The nation of Israel will be established according to God’s covenant promise. At the end of the 1000 years of peace upon the earth, Satan will be released one last time, the final world war will take place and then the final judgment of all unbelievers. This is known as the “White Throne Judgment” Rev. 20:11-15
36
Then eternity! God will create a new heaven and earth and a new Jerusalem, our home. From that point forward into all eternity we will reside with Jesus in perfect sinless peace, joy, and love that we can only imagine!
