User Association for Automation in Process Industries 100 NAMUR member companies

User Association for Automation in Process Industries Increasing number of member companies Number of AGMs Number of member companies 2006 1997 going international 1949 start up

User Association for Automation in Process Industries NAMUR is an international association of users of automation in process industries. Membership of NAMUR is open only to companies of the process industries, provided that these companies are  manufacturers of chemical or pharmaceutical products, or  users of process plants which bear responsibility for operating these plants, or  providers of services to chemical/pharmaceutical manufacturers with or without plant operating responsibility;  also eligible for membership are organizations with a technical or scientific purpose, e.g. scientific bodies, associations, universities etc. NAMUR members represent the interests of users in the process industry. Membership of an association promoting the interests of equipment manufacturers precludes membership of NAMUR. Members

User Association for Automation in Process Industries NAMUR does not deal with commercial, political and social issues, including: organizational and production structures responsibilities, working hours, remuneration issues business segments, markets and products business environment, locational issues, management of public agencies accounting, legal matters or consulting on these issues Companies that are engaged in these fields cannot become NAMUR members. Membership of NAMUR is excluded if the company is a member of an association of manufacturers or is chiefly engaged in selling process control technology products. Who cannot become a member?

User Association for Automation in Process Industries As an association of users of automation in the process industries NAMUR deals with experience and recommendations on the use of automation technology. This includes the following technical fields : Engineering of process control equipment with planning, installation and application software Operation of process control equipment with monitoring, maintenance, optimization and training Service including support with assembly, trouble shooting and repair as well as quality management of process control equipment Solution provider offering advice on technical solutions and on the use and optimization of hardware and software Technical office offering assistance on environmental protection, plant and occupational safety issues Engineering department engaged in basic research and offering advice on complex problems related to process control equipment Companies which operate in this sector can become NAMUR members. NAMUR’s technical fields Process Automation Technical consulting Engineering OperationMaintenance Service

User Association for Automation in Process Industries NAMUR promotes the interests of the process industry in the field of automation, including  instrumentation with sensors and actuators,  electrical engineering  communication between process control equipment,  batch control, advanced process control, plant and process monitoring,  DCS, MES  process management, plant asset management  Logistic systems and Supply Chain Management covering the whole plant life cycle from engineering, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance right through to decommissioning, by enabling the exchange of experience among its members and with manufacturers and other associations. 14 User Association for Automation in Process Industries Network function Pooling of experience among member companies (NAMUR Worksheets) Communication of user interests and giving of advice to manufacturers (NAMUR Recommendations) Regulations Planned legislation, regulations and standards are monitored and where necessary efforts are made to shape these planned measures (i.e. IEC working groups). Uniform interpretation of regulations (i.e. European Union) Joint position adopted in relation to public agencies and monitoring bodies (TÜV). Competence network NAMUR uses its competence network to assure the best possible use of limited human resources. Practical examples of work sharing among the member companies include market surveys, the testing of hardware and software, publications on the interpretation of the level of technology and appointments to standards bodies. Key NAMUR activities

User Association for Automation in Process Industries  NAMUR member companies openly share information related to automation and process control technology. Experience is pooled for mutual benefit.  The focus is always on the interests of automation users.  NAMUR maintains a constructive dialogue with neighboring associations (see ISA).  NAMUR supports national and international standardization through cooperation in the field of automation if this is to the advantage of member companies (see IEC TC 65 and TC 31).  The results of NAMUR‘s work are suitably publicized. Principles

User Association for Automation in Process Industries Cooperation

User Association for Automation in Process Industries The results of the work carried out by NAMUR are publicized: in NAMUR recommendations and worksheets in presentations at the Annual General Meeting in publications which appear in technical journals (e.g. atp, at, ChemManager, CIT, etz, GIT, process, P & A, Messtech & Automation, SPS-Magazin, tm ) in speeches made at workshops and conferences organized by cooperating partners (ARC, DECHEMA, GMA, GVC, ISA, WIB) Publications

User Association for Automation in Process Industries NAMUR recommendations (NE) and worksheets (NA) are progress reports and working documents prepared by NAMUR for its automation user members and designed for optional utilization. NAMUR recommendations (NE) provide an explanation of the state of the art and of regulations for member companies as well as for manufacturers, scientists and public agencies. NAMUR worksheets (NA) are an aid in the form of checklists and instructions designed for practical use in the member companies. All NAMUR‘s recommendations and worksheets are held on its website and can be downloaded by password holders. Individual copies of the NAMUR recommendations can be obtained from the office free of charge. NAMUR recommendations and worksheets
