Hypothesis If 30 seconds of a hip-hop song is played, then your pulse will increase more than if 30 seconds of a pop song is played.

Procedures 1. Pick out 2 or more songs in different genres. 2. Lower heart rate until it reaches its resting point. 3. Play 30 seconds of the first song. 4. Take the pulse immediately afterwards. 5. Record data down on a neat, organized, table. 6. Repeat steps 2-5 for the rest of your song choices.

Materials 1. Headphones 2. Music player 3. noise-cancelling headphones(optional) 4. 2 different songs 5. Heart rate monitor

Data

Independent Variable: Music Genre Dependent Variable: pulse

Constants Amount of music Song Environment Volume

Conclusion I concluded that my hypothesis was correct. Hip-hop speeds up the heart rate or pulse a lot more than pop songs. This is because it has a much stronger and sped up beat. The data was a little more scattered the I expected. Different people reacted differently to music. Some peoples heart actually slowed. The two songs I used were whatever you like by T.I. as my hip-hop choice, and Circus by Britney Spears.
