2  Hello my name is Julian bahrami and my student number is 466997, this presentation is for the unit B101 ‘The technology context’ and I will be analysing the 3 previous phases for coursework 1. These consisted of picking a specific product and describing two design qualities that made a positive environmental impact and was sustainable. The second phase was to revise phase 1 and describe 1 or 2 design concepts that could be applied beneficial to the product that could potential improve its environmental impact. The third phase consisted of revising phase 3 and how the product has affected the brand image and sales revenue of product, the essay also included how the product affected the social behaviours and attitudes of the customers. The product I decided to choose was the Apple macbook pro.

3  Phase 1  Reasons why I choose the Apple as company on to which I choose my product the macbook pro is due to the high standards I know they strive to achieve in being as environmentally friendly as possible. I focused on the components that apple have not used in the product or have cut down signify to stop the refining of such materials such as PVC and mercury which can be extremely damaging to the environment if burnt or not recycled I the correct way. I also researched into how much material used in creating the macbook pro is from a recycled source and from doing so found them to be one of the lading manufactures that includes recycled materials compared to other companies including HP and Dell. Of course the macbook pro does create harmful CO2 gasses from them needing to be charged but because they are such an essential part of our life’s now Apple have really tried to make them as clean to the environment as possible by researching ways for better battery life spans to the recycled materials manufactured into them.

4  Phase 2  The second phase was to revise over phase 1 and to look at the concepts that make the chosen product environmentally friendly as possible and apply them to two other technologies. For this is choose two technologies which I believe to be very damaging to the environment if used to often or not recycled in the correct way. The technologies I choose was the patio and fridge, I choose these technologies because of how there essential to everyday living, fridges more that patio heaters but they can be very harmful environmentally if not recycled correctly or used to much. I researched each off the technologies and found a lot of research has been carried on fridges and it seemed that the concepts from Apple where already applied to fridges from the leading manufactures but i found that only 34% of manufactures used recycled materials in the production of their fridges. For the patio heater not much research has been carried out in this field due to they are not used no way near as much compared to fridges but they still produce a lot of CO2 gasses by burning its propane fuel, the concepts from the macbook pro that can be applied is the way it uses its energy. The macbook pro has had a lot of research into its energy consumption and storage patio heaters rely on propane fuel or a lot of power from a power source using apples concepts of power they could use technologies such as solar power to store energy.
