1 Haines School Expectation Night August 30, 2016

2 Student Expectations Respect others and their property. Take responsibility for your actions. Come prepared to class. Do your homework! Listen to directions. Follow them the first time they are given.

3 Discipline System Green Card: Child starts on green card for day and stays on green after one warning. After the first warning, the child is removed from group/activity and asked to work independently.

4 Discipline System Yellow Card: Child is asked to switch card to yellow after second warning. The student will fill out a yellow slip stating the choice that was inappropriate and will conference with the teacher. Child also is Miss Jandacek’s “shadow” during structured P.E.

5 Discipline System Red Card: Child is asked to switch card to red after third warning. Parents will receive a note or phone call home that day. Child fills out a red slip and conferences with teacher. Child also shadows Ms. Jandacek during structured P.E. time, and writes an apology note in class.

6 Discipline System If any violence or bullying behavior was involved, the student will discuss the matter with Dr. Hall.

10 Third Grade Curriculum LANGUAGE ARTS Storytown series Includes phonics and grammar We will also cover elements of effective writing, and students will incorporate these traits into their writing.

11 Third Grade Curriculum SPELLING Storytown series 15 new Spelling words each week 5 additional “Writing Words” Students work on spelling and phonics activities throughout the week Weekly spelling test on Friday

12 Third Grade Curriculum MATH Everyday Math series Emphasizes problem-solving strategies and using math in everyday life We will also cover multiplication and division

13 Third Grade Curriculum SCIENCE Scott Foresman Illinois series Incorporate a variety of STEM activties Topics include: Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems, Weather and Climate, Forces and Motions, and Life Cycles and Traits of Organisms.

14 Third Grade Curriculum SOCIAL STUDIES Pearson My World series Focuses on World Geography, U.S. History, map reading, and famous historical figures.

15 Homework Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. There is no homework on Fridays! Homework should take no more than thirty minutes each evening, with fifteen to twenty of those minutes used for reading. If an assignment is late, a reminder note will be sent home. Students with 0-1 missing assignments per month will attend a special recess at the end of the month.

16 Homework Your child will write down assignments in his/her assignment notebook. On Fridays, general notes and graded papers will come home in the Friday Folder.

17 Our Specials Schedule White Days: Art/Music Blue Days: P.E. Thursdays: Library

18 Snack Your child will eat snack in the afternoon. Healthy foods are encouraged! We are an allergen aware classroom. Your child also will be allowed to keep a water bottle on his/her desk.

19 Odds and Ends Students cannot wear flip-flops on the mulch at recess. Please make sure to follow the Haines dress code! Lunch begins at 11:40am if you are dropping off a lunch for your child.

20 Odds and Ends Milk is 30 cents during lunch and ice cream is $1.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please send a note with your child if you will be picking him/her up early that day. Visit our class website!
