Whales, Gorillas, Foxes Connor Milton

Whale Adaptations They communicate with many sounds. Most whales migrate great distances. Most whales have a thick layer of blubber. Most tooth whales hunt in groups.

Whale Adaptations (continued) This is how most baleen whale eats. When a whale opens its mouth the baleen comes with it. Then the water and krill goes under the baleen. The whale closes its mouth which traps the krill while the water flows out. Then it swallows the krill.

Whale adaptations This is a different way a baleen whale eats. This example is the humpback whale. The humpback whale swims in circles and they blow bubbles witch traps the fish in the ring and the whale swims up the ring with its mouth open and eats.

Echo location Whales have echo location. Echo location are invisible vibrations the whales brain throws out into the ocean. The echo bounces back and goes to the whales brain. Then the whale knows what it is.

Whale skeleton This is a whale skeleton doesn't show baleens. It has a long backbone (vertebrae). The flippers even have bones Which allows the whale to move its flippers in different directions.

Gorillas

Adaptations The silverback is the leader and most aggressive and strongest because it needs to protect its pack.

Gorillas can walk on two feet, but they don’t because they’re too heavy… so they walk on four.

Foxes They may live in backyards, but red foxes are wild animals. To help keep them wild, people must never feed foxes and should always maintain a distance from them. Wildlife biologists advise covering garbage cans and bringing pets and pet food in at night. "Red foxes can lose their wild ways if humans feed them," she says. "They'll lose their ability to hunt, for example." If they can't hunt, they can't survive.
