Battling Loneliness Genesis 37 – 45

Loneliness - the feeling that it is solely up to me to take care of me because no one else will.

Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish. Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins. See how my enemies have increased and how fiercely they hate me! Psalm 25:16-19

Joseph experienced loneliness because: He was alienated from others. He felt no one cared.

But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. For I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.” The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him. Genesis 40:14-15, 23

Joseph experienced loneliness because: He was alienated from others. He felt no one cared. He felt there was no hope.

As Joseph battled loneliness: He maintained his integrity.

No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” Genesis 39:9

As Joseph battled loneliness: He maintained his integrity. He maintained his relationship with God. He found meaningful work. He forgave those who wronged him.
