Get out your Composition Notebook. Label with your NAME and PERIOD Thank you for sitting quietly while we begin

2 PLAN Identify the observation, hypothesis, experiment, and conclusion component in a lab experiment. DO We will set up our Scientific Journal. We will do a card sort to review the Steps of the Scientific Method. We will discuss the Steps of the Scientific Method. We will begin an inquiry activity to practice using the observation and hypothesis steps of the Scientific Method.

3 Setting up your Science Journal: 1.On the bottom right-hand corner of the first page, put a number 1. 2.On the back of that same page put a number 2. 3.Continue this until you have numbered to 30. 4.Turn back to page 1. 5.At the top, write: Table of Contents1-10 6.You are now ready to begin writing in your Science Journal. 7.We will begin with our first item of the year on page 11.

27 Sling Shot Lab 1.Gather materials 2.Place the slingshot at the “starting position” mark this with a piece of tape. 3.Use the meter stick determine the distances for rubber band pull back (2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm) 4.Place the dice on the rubber band and pull back to the first distance, release and observe the distance it travels. 5.Measure and Record onto the data table. *Repeat for remaining rubber band pull distances.

43 DO NOW Monday, August 22 nd On page of your journal, tape this week’s DO NOW sheet. Write the following in your journal in the Monday box of your DO NOW sheet. Control Group: Group that gets the normal treatment Experimental Group: Group that gets a treatment that’s not normal Identify each group in this experiment: A student wants to know if fertilizer affects the growth of plants. So she sets up two groups. One group of plants receives 5 grams of fertilizer at the beginning of the experiment. The other group of plants receives no fertilizer at all at any time during the experiment.
