How many white horses are there in Wiltshire? Are there  6, 8, 11, 13?

White horses in Wiltshire There have been 13 known white horses in Wiltshire but only 8 remain visible as of 2010. Visible 1. Alton Barnes 2. Broad Town 3. Cherhill 4. Devizes 5. Hackpen 6. Marlborough 7. Pewsey 8. Westbury

Which story is correct? There are 8 still in existence but some might argue that not all are true white horses in that some are more modern inventions! Getting an accurate picture and agreeing together what the story should be so we can share it with our partners and all use the same interpretation might help paint a better picture for all of us

 One story of what Wiltshire is like…….  One agreed description………  One set of agreed facts and figures………  One set of agreed priorities……….  All in one easy to read document accessible to all……….. The Joint Strategic Assessment of Wiltshire - JSA

How the JSA fits in with all our plans Joint Strategic Assessment Strategic Economic Partnership Environmental Alliance Transport Alliance Resilient Communities Partnership Health and Well being Partnership Housing Reference Partnership Community safety Partnership Children and young Peoples Trust Each thematic partnership will have their own priorities that will feed into the JSA for Wiltshire - they will also have their own interpretation of what Wiltshire is like in relation to their thematic area

Thematic partnerships are the drivers of their own priorities the JSA doesn’t invent its own By putting all priorities in one document they can be linked across partnerships Each partnership is aware of a wider context All priorities are easily accessible The evidence behind each priority is there for all to see For the first time there will be one agreed picture of what Wiltshire is like

What the JSA isn’t  It’s not a strategy  It’s not a set of solutions  It’s not a plan

So with one agreed JSA we all can  Base all our plans and strategies on an agreed story  Agree and use one evidence base  Publicise and promote one document

Assessments at a local level The use of Assessments at a local level can lead to direct action – the Health and Wellbeing arena has been discussed at each Area Board with individual presentations so that –Devizes Board are now developing a green gym, walking packs, better use of community centres, activities to encourage independence in older people –South West Wiltshire Board are hosting a special day to look at older peoples needs –Warminster Area Board are running a children’s cookery course in order to reduce long term childhood obesity –Calne Area Board have developed a hub space in a town shop to engage people in conversations about health

All this proves that local Area Boards fully appraised of the facts about Wiltshire can –See where they fit into the big picture –See whether their area does better or worse than other community areas in Wiltshire –See whether a county wide priority is mirrored across their area –Finally establish a local response to helping to deal with the priorities
