2 Reports  “Estimating the burden of neck sprain and strain injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes in Kentucky in 2008 and 2009”  Completed Sept 2011  23,029 Kentuckians diagnosed with crash- related neck sprains and strains (ICD-9-CM code 847.0) in 2008 and 2009  ~ 1 in 4 likely to result in some degree of long- term impairment  ~3,000 new cases per year of “activity-limiting chronic whiplash associated disorder”
