2 Acronym (Augmented Usage of Track by Optimization of Maintenance, Allocation and Inspection of railway Networks) for a project focussed on railway maintenance and inspection started on February 2 nd 2011 Partly funded by FP7 of the European Commission Research department Time scale: 2011-2014, 36 months Budget: 3.8 M€, 2.5M€ EC-funding EC funding for EFRTC € 62,364 EFRTC total effort 4,4 man.month over three years No co-funding by EFRTC budget required What is “AUTOMAIN”? 3 Objective 1: To adopt best practice from other industries in maintenance optimisation (e.g. highways, aerospace…). Objective 2: To develop novel track inspection approaches for freight routes. Objective 3: To research and assess innovations that have the potential to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of large scale maintenance processes (e.g. grinding and tamping). Objective 4: To further develop key technologies that will drive the development of modular infrastructure design; Focus on: switch maintenance, track inspection, tamping and grinding.
