Bright Child vs. Gifted Child Bright Child Knows the answers Has good ideas Works hard Answers the questions Is interested Is attentive Gifted Child Asks the questions Has wild, silly ideas Plays around, yet tests well Already knows Is highly curious Is inattentive

Bright Child vs. Gifted Child Bright Child 6-8 repetitions for mastery Is in the top group Listens with interest Learns with ease Gifted Child 1-2 repetitions for mastery Beyond the group Constructs abstractions Is intense and emotional Thrives on complexity

Gifted Children… Dislike drills and rote learning Don’t follow directions because they see different ways of solving problems Have off the wall ideas and comments Are able to talk around problems and their lack of knowledge Are emotional, passionate, and deeply empathetic See that they are different and worry that they may not fit in Highly self critical and tend to be perfectionists

* Know a little about many things but may not have depth in any one area Are often a challenge to teachers because of questions and contributions to class Are often frustrated with lack of activity or assignments outside their interest Are creative and inventive Have high verbal ability Have a good sense of humor, but may use humor at the wrong time
