8. Success Story B/o Deepa new born male baby diagnosed as D-TGA, INTACT IVS had undergone a high risk complicated open heart surgery Procedure: ARTERIAL SWITCH OPERATION + ASD CLOSURE + PDA DIVISION. Surgery took 6 hours and the child did well after a prolonged ITU stay.

9. CHALLENGES FACED TECHNICAL PROBLEMSFINANCIAL 1)It’s a rare complicated open heart surgery, which very few centers does and normally takes about 6- 8 hours. 2)Being a new born baby it requires a prolonged ITU care with an expert team management during post operative stay to ensure an infection free recovery. 1)Normally this surgery would cost Rs 4 Lakhs but under CMCHIS it was performed with the package cost of Rs.1,37,000. 2)Such patients require prolonged ITU stay, expensive medicines & consumables and the present package rate do not cover such expenses. 3) We request the scheme authorities to consider higher package rates for such rare & complex procedures which is life saving.

10.  Kumari. Yogeshwari.T aged 7/f, was diagnosed as a case of High risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia-AML (a type of blood cancer).  She proceeded with chemotherapy to bring her leukemia under control, but to cure her completely she needed a bone marrow transplant.  Unfortunately there was no matched family donor, we went ahead with Haplo identical / half matched family donor(mother) as that was the only option.  The transplant was a success and she is a very happy going school kid. 11. TECHNICAL PROBLEMSFINANCIAL PROBLEMS 1)She had high risk acute myeloid leukemia. These patient do not do well only with chemo, so she required BMT. 2) For BMT,there was no fully HLA matching donor available in the family or elsewehere. 3)She was planned for haplo- identical(half matched) transplant using mother as donor which is very complicated and challenging 4)She needed strict isolation and intense supportive care for few months after transplant. 1)Normally this Bone Marrow Transplant cost would been Rs 15 Lakh’s but under CMCHIS it is done for just Rs 9,46,980. 2)Such patients require prolonged PICU stay and the present package rate does not even compensate the medicines and consumables. 3) We request scheme authorities to consider to increase the package rates for all such high end procedures.
